• U.S. Pays $223.6 Million to Import Fireworks from China
Here's a surprising stat to ponder while shooting off fireworks to celebrate America on the Fourth of July. The U.S. imported $223.6 million in fireworks from China in 2011, while only exporting $15.8 million in fireworks to all international markets, according to U.S. Census Bureau data quoted by Industry Market Trends. What can be done to help the U.S trade deficit when it comes to fireworks? Not much, apparently. Rep. Dan Benishek (R-MI) and Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) have introduced a bill that would temporarily suspend duties on fireworks imported from overseas, making them even cheaper to buy than they already are, but sending more money overseas. Coincidentally, fireworks makers have contributed $1,149,280 to Republican candidates, and $1,082,834 to Democratic candidates. Where's the source?
The US imports a product from a place with significantly lower production costs to the tune of $200 million. How is this news
This just in, US imports $200 million of cheap plastic plates!
China is blamed in US for causing several firework warehouse explosion, could this be a start to the full-scale communist invasion? More at eleven
This is obviously a devious plot
as weapons
Well yes, but they also were the first to make celebratory fireworks as well.
My god on our national holiday widely celebrated with fireworks we bought fireworks?
the chinese kind of invented fireworks so i'd trust the quality
I don't understand this, it was invented by an entirely different group of people in an entirely different time period
OH BOY I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT GOOD USE THIS WILL GO TO I'M SURE IT COULDN'T HAVE BEEN USED TO FIX ANY PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD OH NO
So was the car, and the microwave oven, and the stick.
On a scale of 1 to potato how stupid are you? Car was a wagon with a 1 cylinder engine mounted on it Microwaves were used for radar (used in war but not a weapon) And the stick is... a stick.
microwave oven
The microwave oven was invented as a microwave oven. Is this a hard concept?
My god on our national holiday widely celebrated with fireworks we bought fireworks?
I visited a fireworks warehouse in New Hampshire last year. There were American flags plastered all over the packaging of most of the firework sets. I checked the bottom and they all said made in China.
The microwave oven was invented as a microwave oven. Is this a hard concept?
Actually, it was invented as a high-resolution radar device for bombers during the Second World War.
Actually, it was invented as a high-resolution radar device for bombers during the Second World War.
No, the radar came first. It wasn't invented as anything other than itself. It's an application for the technologies used in radar.
And we can't light any of the fucking things on fire because we'll burn the whole country down.
So was the car, and the microwave oven, and the stick.
Nobody invented the stick.
Nobody invented the stick.
Of course no one invented the stick, aliens gave it to us.
And all that money went into this one display
Looks like Bagdad in 2003.
Basically, the reason it costs this much is because prices shipping regulations in regards to all classifications of fireworks has risen dramatically; 5 or 10 years ago, shops could easily import 1.1G fireworks from China for scrap change; Now it has risen to the point where China no longer exports 1.1G, simply due to the extreme costs.
