• My T.V. makes a bad sounding buzz while plugged in, what should I do?

I've never noticed this before, but when my T.V. was plugged in, I could clearly hear a buzzing noise coming from the back of it. It sounded like electricity passing over a cut wire, but very fast (~20-40 times a second). Considering that I had no clue what it was, I unplugged it. But what happened next concerned me more. It kept going. And after about 5 seconds of still going, I noticed it getting louder. I even backed off thinking it would explode. Then another 5 seconds passed of it getting louder,to really loud, and then it stopped. Which makes sense. I did plug it in, and it did keep making the noise. I have little experience with electronic stuff in this case, so I didn't know what I should've googled. The T.V. is a Sylvania tube T.V. that's several years old. I never heard this noise before, and I'm wondering if I should get it checked before it burns down my house. Or maybe I'm just being a paranoid idiot. Either way, please tell me what I should do.
Stop nibbling on the T.V. cords.
