I've had the DK1 at home for a couple weeks a year or so ago. It was pretty immersive (walking through Skyrim in first person with the OR is breathtaking, it's truly amazing) but it still had a lot of flaws. It seemed as if you were looking through a screen door, you could literally count the pixels. Stuff in the distance was also really blurry. I hope they fixed that. DK2 apparently still has this, but less.
Wait where are the LED thingys

Also iirc there was some screen/lens magic that makes individual pixels pretty much impossible to see. [editline]6th May 2015[/editline] People keep saying VR wont become a big thing, but i completely disagree. VR is the future of gaming, just is it going to be a big thing in say, the next 5 years? Probably not. But in 20 years? Definately.
I hope these will come in Translucent Gameboy Shell style eventually 'Cause this looks pretty cool to me.
Wait where are the LED thingys
the LEDs are under the plastic shell and shine through it for the positional camera to see, though they're also IR and that light is not visible to the human eye anyways. (see above photo)
What about the price? How's it gonna cost?

There are far too many genres that wont work with VR and many more that wont ever need VR and still support it. VR will certainly be a part of gaming, but it isn't "the future of gaming."

It's a massive step forward for a lot of things, but [like I'd been talking about in some recent threads] a lot of games that require fast paced movement or take away your visual horizon (mirror's edge flipping you every-which-way for instance) are a recipe for total disaster. Depending on advances in resolution though, the oculus could still be a passive part of any media entertainment with things like the Oculus Virtual Desktop, which essentially gives you a gigantic floating movie screen with variable position/distance/size at your command. Playing games and movies in a "3D on screen" mode is still extremely visually pleasing. People have mentioned with the oculus movie theater thing, 3D movies are infinitely better in the oculus, despite still being locked to a screen and way lower res because they were experiencing on a DK1 and such. VR by far has the most potential in the media industry, but we have to know how to apply it best to so many unique situations before people accept it for its strengths, not just its wow factor.

That room is now your steam library and all your games are played on a TV model of your choosing in the room conditions you choose. Now every game in your steam library is 'oculus compatible' because VR is truly the future of gaming. not really, but you get the joke
