The plans were never carried out, the officials said, and Leon E. Panetta, the C.I.A. director, canceled the program last month. Officials at the spy agency over the years ran into myriad logistical, legal and diplomatic obstacles. How could the role of the United States be masked? Should allies be informed and might they block the access of the C.I.A. teams to their targets? What if American officers or their foreign surrogates were caught in the midst of an operation? Would such activities violate international law or American restrictions on assassinations overseas? Yet year after year, according to officials briefed on the program, the plans were never completely shelved because the Bush administration sought an alternative to killing terror suspects with missiles fired from drone aircraft or seizing them overseas and imprisoning them in secret C.I.A. jails.
Fucking brilliant idea. Send CIA teams to foreign countries to assassinate suspected al Qaeda leaders. Don't let the foreign governments know. WHAT COULD GO WRONG? :rolleye:
lol
Why in the world do they feel the need to keep plans to assassinate leaders of a terrorist organization that admitted to killing 3,000 of our citizens secret? I mean, obviously you shouldn't tell them what we're gonna do, but I think the fact that we're planning on shooting them in the face is pretty apparent.

That is quite anticlimactic.

I get the feeling that those on the list for assassination probably suspected something beforehand...
Would you be pissed if a team of assassins came into your country and assassinated someone?
Depends on who it is.
Should have bombed them.
Depends on who it is.
If, say, Germany, sent a team of assassins into the US and assassinated, say, Timothy McVeigh, would you be outraged?

So that was the SUPR SRS secret they were keeping? Oooooooooo :rolleye:
If, say, Germany, sent a team of assassins into the US and assassinated, say, Timothy McVeigh, would you be outraged?
No Also, why would a foreign country send in assassins to kill a domestic terrorist?
Oh, is that all? Why are people getting upset?
So, it was just Black Ops Assassins killing Al Qaeda members? Don't the Marines already do that except not secretly
This has got to be a cover story.
This has got to be a cover story.
Indeed. October 12th is still happening though
Awww man, I was hoping it would be the replacement for the SR-71. there's a possibility it's the rumored aurora
I get the feeling that those on the list for assassination probably suspected something beforehand...
Israel and France does it all the time.
Israel and France does it all the time.
Like the Mossad. They were active in South America, trying to capture Nazis.
And you guys thought they were watching you masturbate or some shit.
No, that's Ceiling Cat's job.
Covert Operations are the most successful missions. Haven't any of you played COD4? Get a team of 5 guys and make sure one of them has a handlebar mustache and send them into a foreign country where they can fuck shit up sideways.
Haven't we been doing this since the late 40's?
this is very illegal but noone will be prosecuted  in fact nobody will be talking about this in one month's time
Wow, so they're shitty at keeping secrets AND carrying out assassinations. I'm telling you guys, the CIA doesn't WANT to actually catch Bin Laden.
I thought it was common knowlege that we were taking Al Qaeda out using asssassins, why is this concidered a "secret"...
Would you be pissed if a team of assassins came into your country and assassinated someone?
you can't be serious
pffff big deal is anyone really that naive to think we weren't doing this?
Israeli Mossad did something similar to what was describred, after the massacre of the israeli sports team at the munich olympics. Detailed in the movie Munich, an epic movie.
