• weird sound coming from laptop fan vent

like the title said my laptop is an Asus K55VM it sort of happens intermittently (not constant, sometimes it comes out at random and goes away after a bit, sometimes it stays for longer) if i press the underside of the laptop (near the fan vent) it stops the sounds and makes the fans sound normal (only to return sometimes), but sometimes, even pressing in that weird ambiguous spot doesn't stop the sound. the sound is REALLY fucking annoying, its this whirr that's maddening and can be heard over any movie played in full blast due to how low end and specific it is (and of course, ruins scenes with silence in them) here's a video of it apologies for the sin of vertical video think it's an easy fix? i'm not a super hardware guy with laptops much love friends
it really sounds like the mounting screws for it are coming loose (suprised it hasn't over heated but then that wouldn't make sense how it's still running) or the fan mount is coming loose/bearings are fucked both are bad and it won't be an easy fix depending on how that laptop is built
Is this something that needs immediate attention to avoid direct consequences? I'm kinda strapped for cash to pay for repairs. Is it difficult to self-fix because it has to be done delicately? Because I won't have a problem with that
This is what the underside looks like It's been going on for about a month I think Hasn't been getting better or worse
both are bad and it won't be an easy fix depending on how that laptop is built
As someone who works on laptops all the time, I can say that 99.9% of laptops are notoriously difficult to service. To get to the fan and heatsink assembly on nearly all of them usually requires complete disassembly of the laptop. I have 10 laptops myself and only two of them have doors that allow direct access to the heatsink, while only one has access to the fan assembly.
This is what the underside looks like
That looks very similar to a laptop I've worked on before. I think you're going to have to take the keyboard off to get at the fan assembly. But to take the keyboard off, you usually have to remove the battery to get to the screws holding the keyboard on.
Only laptops I've taken apart that instantly have full access when the back panel is removed are some select Dell Precision and Latitudes. [editline]3rd November 2014[/editline] ASUS laptops are usually pretty bad, especially the ROG series.
