Here's how Intel describes the settlement: Intel Corporation and Advanced Micro Devices today announced a comprehensive agreement to end all outstanding legal disputes between the companies, including antitrust litigation and patent cross license disputes. So, they're not fighting directly anymore, and the mountains of patent and antitrust disputes are resolved: Intel will pay this ridiculously large sum of money to AMD, and agree to not engage in anything even resembling monopolistic behavior, and both companies will live in harmony, cross-licensing technologies and competing, but softly! Great. Well, sort of: Intel's biggest problems right now don't come from other companies, but from governments: complaints from AMD no doubt helped spur investigations by the European Commission and New York Attorney General into Intel's business practices, and as part of the agreement AMD is withdrawing their complaints with both agencies, but the EC issued their $1bn+ fine quite a while ago, and from the looks of it, the AG's office is eager to move forward with their investigation too. In other words, this probably isn't the end of the pain for Intel. That, kids, is why you don't engage in anticompetetive practices in a two-company industry.
Haha. Classic move Intel. Bravo.
Good move intel, that'll stop them advancing their techn- oh wait
Terribly sorry for the silly question but which company does this favor most really?
"Stop messing with us and we'll save your sorry asses from bankruptcy"
"Here, have 1.3 million, but leave us alone" "Ok" *in the office, 1 hour later* "What suckers, ahaha. We'll just put that 1.3 million into developing new technology"
proof that throwing money on things solves anything
"Stop messing with us "
Fixed
Umm you do know AMD has been in financial trouble for the last two years or so right
Umm you do know AMD has been in financial trouble for the last two years or so right
Not anymore I guess...
Haha it's hilarious how corrupt Intel are and can get away with it, fair play though.
Haha it's hilarious how corrupt Intel are and can get away with it, fair play though.
How are they corrupt? They make the processors that most people use so they make the most money. Easy as that.
Terribly sorry for the silly question but which company does this favor most really?
AMD A billion dollars is a hell of a lot of money in any industry.
I want that sum of money :saddowns:
Well time to buy an AMD processor, since competition will kind of die down and prices once again might rise.
How are they corrupt? They make the processors that most people use so they make the most money. Easy as that.
Yay! Now that I learned how to use arguments through class, I can happily read your post and smug for hours to come :smug:
Good, if AMD went bankrupt Intel would have no competition. No competition = higher prices = bad
Waiting for the AMD Fusions
My dad works for Intel. I can't say anything, but...:smug:
I just hope that they continue to make Am2 socket cores.
Umm you do know AMD has been in financial trouble for the last two years or so right
Yeah. It must the their excellent sales in the GPU area that keep them afloat though. [editline]01:43AM[/editline]
AMD A billion dollars is a hell of a lot of money in any industry.
Not in the American government!
Terribly sorry for the silly question but which company does this favor most really?
Consumer, PLC. Without this money, AMD stood quite a large chance of going bust. They wouldn't take ATi with them, but was getting to the point that AMD wasn't viable anymore. We could have been left with just Intel, which sucks for the customer. Competition is good, keeps new products coming and prices lowering.
I was going to say that 1.3 million is like $20 bucks. Then reread the OP and it was 1.25 billion! :aaaaa:
