"The company has suffered from a hostile takeover by a Chinese investor who is wanted in China for fraud. He used a number of straw-men and businesses to accumulate more and more Mega shares.
Apparently Dotcom isn’t stopping, though, and plans to build an “open source and non-profit” Mega competitor when his non-compete runs out at the end of the year. He thinks it could be funded similar to Wikipedia, on donations.
this guy can take so much shit but still have motivation to keep going
It's pretty hard for me to really dislike this guy. He's just a larger than life guy who never seems to give up.
Shit, what does this mean for the people that have accounts there?
Soo RIP Mega?
Better empty or delete your MEGA account then.
Better empty or delete your MEGA account then.
Why? This sucks but it's not like this random Chinese businessman is really, really going to care about your nudes, let alone break some international laws in order to privately collect them... for some reason. If I had to guess, maybe he just wanted to be the majority shareholder of a profitable business and used strawman accounts to buy shares, but even that much hasn't been confirmed by anyone yet. Dotcom's making a statement next week.
This is why you keep 50.000001% shares so you maintain majority, did you get that greedy mr dot com. [editline]31st July 2015[/editline]
separation from his wife, who owned his shares in the site.
Oh wait.. Why would you give your wife all your shares.. The less assets were in his name the better he could end up after this.
This guy is a kingpin. Anything he touches will do well. He just knows what the internet wants and how to deliver it.
It's pretty hard for me to really dislike this guy. He's just a larger than life guy who never seems to give up.
Hes a pretty big douche irl to be honest, but sure hes been wronged a lot.
Wow that's bullshit, Megaupload is better than ever now.
this guy can take so much shit but still have motivation to keep going
Does he have a donate page anywhere like holy shit [editline]a[/editline] He also makes some bomb-ass music.
Well, I guess it's time to go back to Google Drive. Given this news, there really is no "safe" cloud service anymore, so I might as well use the one that's most convenient and has the least amount of issues.
I mean this sucks for him and all, but maybe you guys shouldn't be so willing to throw all your money at his next venture considering he keeps getting his products fucked over? Fool you guys once, shame on him, fool you guys twice, throw money at his next venture! Surely nothing could go wrong.
That's a shame because mega actually owns now

People want his projects to succeed despite being constantly hounded by the NZ and US governments bullcrap, in that sense there would be no need to give him any money if his projects weren't getting fucked over, he'd have plenty of his own.
It's pretty hard for me to really dislike this guy. He's just a larger than life guy who never seems to give up.
Well he's certainly larger than a lot of things.

Just learn how to use PGP and grab an S3 account. Or install an FTP server and enable FTPS, if you only need to just move files to friends.
Didn't we all, once upon a time, frown on Mr. Dotcom? Don't get me wrong, I love the guy. He's hilarious and ambitious and jolly fun, but I recall the attitude being different years ago.
Ah man...I really liked MEGA. That's too bad. Guess I'll be ditching the service soon.

But, even then though, that doesn't mean they can just walk into Dotcom's house or go to the servers where ever they happen to be and just do what they want. Ya know?
