• Cheap but functional laptop/netbook at £250-300?

So I've been looking around lately trying to find a cheap netbook/laptop for a portable webdesign/Internet Browsing/media player solution, but I'm not very good or updated with laptops anymore and would need help to find something suitable. I won't need it for gaming as I already have a good gaming PC, so this is generally for simple browsing, watching movies and perhaps some Minecrafting. It's preferable that it have ION gpu though, but is certainly not a requirement. All suggestions are welcome. :buddy: Update: As mentioned below, I've adjusted my budget a little. New budget is between £400-£500 (£500 is a maximum though. I can go further, but that would be a waste for my purpose)
they all suck
they all suck
Care to explain why? I've had worse machines than those, believe me.
£250-300? ION Gpu? What are you smoking?
http://www.google.com/chromeos/pilot-program.html Might as well try, minus the ION gpu.
£250-300? ION Gpu? What are you smoking?
Nothing. There's 1 Compaq Netbook with it, but I guess it's the only one. I've thought about raising my budget to £400 and go for an i3 laptop from Novatech (which is around £380).
Asus 1201n. Seriously, this shit's amazing.
dude, minecraft is a very resource intensive game, don't expect to be playing any MC on a cheap netbook. personally i'm waiting to see how the chrome OS netbook works out.
dude, minecraft is a very resource intensive game, don't expect to be playing any MC on a cheap netbook. personally i'm waiting to see how the chrome OS netbook works out.
I can play it fine on my Asus 1201T. It has a 1.6 GHz single core Athlon Neo, 2 GB RAM and a Radeon HD Mobility 3200. An ION based netbook will play it fine.
I have the Acer Aspire One 533. I think it goes for about 350 though I got mine on a sale so it didn't cost that much :P, also newer models by now for sure. Specs: Windws 7 Starter Ed 10.1" LED LCD Screen Atom N455 1.66 Ghz 1GB DDR3 RAM 250 GB HDD 6 cell battery (about 6 hours) Intel GMA 3150 - I put in more ram so I have 2 GB DDR3 and put on Windows 7 Home Premium. It runs the full version of Windows 7 better than I was expecting. Handles flash well enough on youtube at least and I can play some lower end steam games. I mostly just use it for homework and web browsing. It can't run minecraft very well, around 20 fps. You'd need a ION chip for that probably yea. I wouldn't play MC on it anyhow what with the whole touchpad. Also I was limited to a 6 cell battery, you can get an 8 cell battery version but thats harder to get when you live in Canada.
For £290 you can get this, has a Athlon Dual core and a HD4250 (slower than 9400M in ION): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EMACHINES-E640-15-6IN-LAPTOP-REFURB-/330503507794?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item4cf38b4f52#ht_2604wt_1139 However for a little more you can get this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MSI-X610-WIDESCREEN-WINDOWS-7-15-6IN-LAPTOP-REFURB-/350418388357?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item5196904585#ht_2604wt_1139 Has a HD4330 (faster than ION) which can play Crysis on Low at 30fps. However the first laptop has DDR3 RAM and this one has DDR2. I recommend you look around the Argos outlet, they have lots of refurb laptops at cheap prices with 12 month warranties. Me and a work buddy have been looking around and I've adjusted my budget slightly. I might go up to £500 and looking for more of a laptop. I tried his old Eeepc and I wasn't that amused. :v:
Read my post...
Read my post...
I did. I scrolled though the outlet at work and it looks great. I'm a bit picky when it comes to used electronics, even if it's refurnished. I've bookmarked the page though, just in case. :v:
They are refurbished to a near new condition and have 12 months warranty, the laptops I posted would cost £400-£500 new.
Fucking 1201n!!!!
