So I'm growing some 'corn' and I have a 400w high pressure sodium bulb. I did a bit of rummaging and I found a 400w HID ballast, I was all excited because I though I just saved 80 bucks. Unfortunately it has an ANSI W59 bulb fixture meant for a 400w metal halide bulb like the ones they use in warehouse lighting Instead of the S51 setup that was recommended on the bulb.
Do you think it could work if I just pop it in there or do I have to buy a 400w HPS ballast ignition capacitor and re-wire the whole thing?
I could also use like 6 or 7 26W CFL bulbs but I don't know how that would effect the growth rate. I've heard that HPS is the way to go for single bulb setups due to it having a broad spectrum.
I'd repost this on a more growing centralized forum mate there're a few about. There are a few experienced growers on dd afaik but you might get better replies elsewhere
