Duolingo finally added Esperanto, and as a newbie language-geek, I've been very excited to learn it.
I'm not sure how many esperantistoj we have on facepunch, if any at all, but I figured I might as well make a thread about it.
Mi ŝatas esperanto, ĝi estas tre bela kaj facile lingvo!
(This post written at the risk of looking like a huge tool)
My old GMod server group's name was based on an Esperanto word (krei, and later kreintoj)
I've always wanted to learn a bit of it! I'm a huge geek for linguistics.
hey, i'm learning esperanto at the risk of looking like a huge tool
i just love learning languages, and it's a pretty fun hobby, especially with things like duolingo.
personally it doesn't matter that it wont "help" me, and my chances of meeting another esperanto speaker in real life are very slim
but i just think it's a cool sounding language, and i want to write music lyrics in it
Ĉu vi parolas Esperanton?
ne, mi estas komencanto
sed mi lernas, eble malrapide
[editline]31st May 2015[/editline]
someone on reddit only took 44 hours to complete the entire duolingo tree, kion diable!

Fine! Mi memori kiam ĝi estis "iam". Ankaŭ rusta, fidas al Lernu.net.
[editline]e[/editline]
I'll someday be able to understand it without a vortaro for a crutch.
wow, i did not believe this thread would be used at all! great to see we have so many linguistics nerdez here
[editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
(aka 4.5 linguistics nerdez)
I'm a linguistics nerd (studied English Linguistics, French, German and Translation and Interpreting at University, now studying Japanese at Uni) but I don't have any interest in Esperanto. (English/Japanese/German/Spanish/Latin/French/Dutch)

Tbh I still dont know whether I should continue my German education from where I left off or start learning a new one (such as esperanto)? Since you're so good at learning new languages I thought I'd ask :v:
EDIT: I'm interested in Spanish too.

personally, i kind of "left off" on my german at my current elementary/intermediate level. there's still lots of work i could do in german but i've shifted my focus to esperanto for the time being. You could always practice your german with me, since i still need to work on it, as well as esperanto.
spanish is next on the list for me as well

It depends on what level you're at. With me, my skills in Latin, Dutch, Spanish are all products of taking in small amounts of information gradually for about 10 years. You could postpone your German studies, if you want, but you've gotta have the determination to, at some point, come back to it and relearn what you've forgotten. The other languages just came from 6 hours a day of gruelling self-study. :v:

Well.. It was enough to take care of myself during my one week stay at Cologne two years ago however I'm unsure about my current level.
i wrote a play featuring a character that speaks only esperanto (ridiculous i know)
but i'm still a komencanto so much of it is straight out of google translate
if anyone here would be willing and able to correct some of this shit for me, i'd be real appreciative

bump, ĉar mi trovis esperantan irc-kanelon, dankoj al tiu poŝto en la fadeno de lingvo lernantoj
[QUOTE=BackwardSpy;51069688]I started learning Esperanto a few days ago, I would recommend checking out the Telegram groups and the IRC (##esperanto on Freenode.) The community is very friendly and helpful.
In terms of learning resources, I've had Memrise, Duolingo, and Lernu.net recommended to me. :)[/QUOTE]
mi trovas ĝin tre helpema, eble ĝi povas helpi iuj ĉi tie
There's a language learning megathread by the way, it struggles to stay alive somewhat, wish it as more active.
