On my HDTV when the screen goes black, you can still see remnants of the picture that was just there.
And when I play GTA IV on it, at night when the stree lights are on I you can see a little trail behind them and it just stays until the picture moves to something else.
What is this and why is it happening.
Is it an old LCD? I've seen this happen on older LCD displays...
If it's a plasma it's called burn-in, and it happens when it displays an image for too long. It can be fixed by showing some fast moving images or using a built in screen wipe pattern. LCD is best for gaming.

Probably not burn-in since the remnants always change
Ghosting on a really old lcd screen?
Your bulb is probably about to die.

The remnants will change to whatever was shown on the screen for a length of time. For example, the news ticker on a news station.
