I have most of the basic info. Even had a friend over in the US interview his grandfather,
Whom fought there.
But I can't find a reasonable explanation why the soldiers got spit on, and overall hated when they came back?
Anybody think of something good?
Wasn't there next to no support for the war by the time it ended/those who did support it weren't too pleased about not winning?
Because the vietnam war caused a lot of shit that just about all of America at that time was opposed to.
Oh and we lost.
Vietnam was hated by Americans because it went against everything we were for. We went in there for all the wrong reasons, and we didn't even win.

Writing that down... Keep posting, though. This is good stuff.
It was when the peace movement was starting to become something big. As a result you had your general hippy population extremely opposed to the war.
Not to talk about the war crimes and cruelty. The My Lai massacre, Napalm...
The Tet Offensive really fucked up US morale.
The massive use of herbicides, such as the Agent Orange, the malformations, birth defcts, thousands of deaths.
I'm going to watch some "dis is basd on reel stoof" movies about 'nam. Any recommendations? I heard "We Were Soldiers" is good?

Read about that. Saw some pictures too. Horrible shit, man... What has been seen cannot be un-seen.
Shocking really?
We were soldiers
Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Now
All good nam films.
The Gulf of Tonkin incident was seen as a spark for the escalation of troops when it happened.
However after the war went sorta downhill for America, the Gulf of Tonkin incident came under scrutiny and was percieved as a sort of scape goat, any excuse, to begin escalation of the war.
all you need to know is that it never happened
