Russian Cyber Hacks on U.S. Electoral System Far Wider Than Previously Known https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-06-13/russian-breach-of-39-states-threatens-future-u-s-elections
Russia’s cyberattack on the U.S. electoral system before Donald Trump’s election was far more widespread than has been publicly revealed, including incursions into voter databases and software systems in almost twice as many states as previously reported. In Illinois, investigators found evidence that cyber intruders tried to delete or alter voter data. The hackers accessed software designed to be used by poll workers on Election Day, and in at least one state accessed a campaign finance database. Details of the wave of attacks, in the summer and fall of 2016, were provided by three people with direct knowledge of the U.S. investigation into the matter. In all, the Russian hackers hit systems in a total of 39 states, one of them said. The scope and sophistication so concerned Obama administration officials that they took an unprecedented step -- complaining directly to Moscow over a modern-day “red phone.” In October, two of the people said, the White House contacted the Kremlin on the back channel to offer detailed documents of what it said was Russia’s role in election meddling and to warn that the attacks risked setting off a broader conflict. but but but deep state! no votes were altered! TRUMP LEGITIMATELY WAS ELECTED (by a broken system)!! GET OVER IT LIBTURDS
Just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any worse, it does. By all accounts, depending on just how bad this is, the US could have a totally illegitimate President sitting right now, on the account that even more than three million people voted for Hillary.
In a normal country we would redo the elections, lock up anyone involved in treason and restore democracy. But this is the US, so I'm sure our Congress will issue a statement saying they're deeply disturbed and continue on with their one party authoritarian rule. We need justice man.
but but but deep state! no votes were altered! TRUMP LEGITIMATELY WAS ELECTED (by a broken system)!! GET OVER IT LIBTURDS
Sorry but even Comney before he was fired admitted this was true. No Votes were altered.
If you actually read the article, nothing was altered and it sounds more like people fishing to steal identities than fuck with the election.
Don't know if you guys know, but historically this sort of interference has been considered an act of war. War won't be declared so easily in the age of nuclear weapons, but this is an incredible provocation. The US may not declare war, but once Trump is gone, there's likely going to be a lot of covert retaliation.

And with the unscrupulous Putin in the big chair over there, who knows what the response might be? For all we know, he could be painting his skin grey and supergluing a teaspoon to his forehead as we speak.
Sorry but even Comney before he was fired admitted this was true. No Votes were altered.
To his knowledge no votes were altered* He could have been wrong.
To his knowledge no votes were altered* He could have been wrong.
The Nsa, DHS, and CIA said no aswell.
If you actually read the article, nothing was altered and it sounds more like people fishing to steal identities than fuck with the election.
Just because they didn't alter anything, doesn't mean they didn't try:
In Illinois, investigators also found evidence that the hackers tried but failed to alter or delete some information in the database, an attempt that wasn’t previously reported. That suggested more than a mere spying mission and potentially a test run for a disruptive attack, according to the people familiar with the continuing U.S. counterintelligence inquiry.
[editline]13th June 2017[/editline]
In Illinois, investigators found evidence that cyber intruders tried to delete or alter voter data.
Just because they didn't alter anything, doesn't mean they didn't try:
No one is disputing that they tried
No one is disputing that they tried
And that's not alarming?
If you actually read the article, nothing was altered and it sounds more like people fishing to steal identities than fuck with the election.
They should do it in Florida. Florida hands out every voter's info. No seriously, you can even request a CD
And that's not alarming?
Not really. The letter agencies are aware of the threat and nothing has happened, yet.
Wow Clinton, don't collude with Russia to try to get those illegal immigrant votes!
If you actually read the article, nothing was altered and it sounds more like people fishing to steal identities than fuck with the election.
"this guy tried to murder me, but he failed so its fine" Also, what moron would hack the voting database to steal identities? Considering that there are so many easier methods to steal information, and how we criminize even minor voting infractions (see: all the single tiny examples of "voter fraud" used as an excuse put tons voting regulations), why would someone take that route? Don't you think someone would hack the voting registry to do something more than identity theft?
Not really. The letter agencies are aware of the threat and nothing has happened, yet.
A hostile foreign power making attempts to fraud the US presidential election is "not really" alarming?
Not really. The letter agencies are aware of the threat and nothing has happened, yet.
Okay well in line with this logic lets not do anything about climate change until something bad happens due to it and lets not vaccinate until measles really comes back, anything else is alarmist This kind of logic is terrifyingly myopic and equates to burying your head in the sand. Its not intelligent.
A hostile foreign power making attempts to fraud the US presidential election is "not really" alarming?
You quoted the answer to your question?
Votes were altered.
... as far as we know. Could be that votes were altered significantly, however they covered part of their tracks, leaving the rest in to 're-affirm' Like admitting to the police you have a gram of cocaine in your pocket to avoid them seeing the kilo of heroin under the car.
In a normal country we would redo the elections, lock up anyone involved in treason and restore democracy.
You quoted the answer to your question?
The burden is on you to explain why an attack on American democracy isn't something to be alarmed over.
The burden is on you to explain why an attack on American democracy isn't something to be alarmed over.
Easy answer. His candidate won. Damn how he won and damn the consequences.
The burden is on you to explain why an attack on American democracy isn't something to be alarmed over.

Not really. The letter agencies are aware of the threat and nothing has happened, yet.
Can you read?
Can you read?
So an active threat to American democracy is not alarming, merely because the threat is known?
So an active threat to American democracy is not alarming, merely because the threat is known?
But he said nothing happened yet, so it's all good of course!
You quoted the answer to your question?
I think he was asking again to make sure we understand that your position on "foreign entities messing with the presidential election" as "eh, doesnt really matter." HOW do you not see an issue with this? It doesnt matter that they seemingly failed, they attempted to subvert a democratic vote. This is far beyond a political stance. thinking that it is alright to cheat on national elections is lunacy
So an active threat to American democracy is not alarming, merely because the threat is known?
and currently harmless, yes. They got caught fucking around and the letter agencies know where to look and what to watch for. The chances of them managing to carry out whatever is they're trying to do is probably highly unlikely.
