NEW DELHI—Beijing’s air pollution has reached such toxic levels recently that the Chinese government is finally acknowledging the problem – and acting on it.
But in New Delhi on Thursday, air pollution levels far exceeded those in Beijing, only without any government acknowledgement or action. It is not the first time pollution in India’s capital has outpaced that in China.
The level of tiny particulates known as PM 2.5, which lodge deep in the lungs and can enter the bloodstream, was over 400 micrograms per cubic meter in various neighborhoods in and around Delhi Thursday, according to a real-time air quality monitor. That compared to Beijing’s most-recent air quality reading of 172 micrograms per cubic meter. (The “Air Quality online” link to the left of the Delhi website gives you real-time monitoring of Delhi’s pollution levels.)
At the University of Delhi’s northern campus at 12:30 p.m., the reading for PM 2.5 was 402 micrograms per cubic meter; in the eastern suburb of Noida it was 411; at the Indira Gandhi International airport it was 421.
They have to wear towels around their heads even if they're not religious
the air is just so bad they need to filter some of the shit out
but really, "towelheads"? That's not even the right stereotype, Hindu is the most commonly practiced religion there iirc.

Don't derail the thread. ^
How people can live in a place like this without there being some civil uprising is beyond me.
I'd wrap towels around my head if I lived in such a poluted area
If I lived there I'd probably be too poor for gasmasks
New Delhi early winter. Always such a beautifull sight in the morning. Only had like seven years to try it out :P
to enhance your anti-pollution sentiments, imagine a huge party where everyone is throwing poisonous confetti, and there's so much you have no choice but to breathe some of it in

emphasis on the "breathing in confetti" part
Well shit that sucks, I am glad that here in the U.S. that we have the EPA and air standards that keep us safe. Really do hope that their air gets better and that stop polluting so much.
I kinda wonder if modern markets could survive without someone taking the pollution-hit.
I mean, think of all the products and such that we have thanks to what causes this pollution.
If you light a match there, would it burn?
Would it burn less brightly?..
Serious question, I've wondered this for a while now.
The scary thing about living in a place like that is you can't escape the nasty air. It's everywhere :tinfoil:
wow, at least my sister moved to Mumbai instead.

because they're used to it?
(and there's a permanent civil uprising along with a permanent hard-on for the leader permanently)

I though mumbai's air quality was way worse, atleast it seemed like that when I visited
maybe they managed to clean it up with the cng push

Yes, and probably not noticeably.
i was in bombay once
had a bustrip through the city, sitting by a window to my right
when i got out of the bus my ear was all black of dust and shit
india's a fucking polluted place for sure
Thank goodness for governmental regulations. Anyone who wants to do away with the EPA and similar agencies should be forced to spend a week in New Delhi or Beijing.
Humans are fucking dumb.
We need CLEAN air to breathe, not dirty smog shit.
I don't see what's wrong with my old deli why would I switch

I for one am perfectly fine with breathing in dirty smog shit.
The smog isn't as disgusting as the fucking market streets and oh god man holes like the smell makes you cry
Looks like the enviroment was raped too.
But seriously how could they have only just noticed this.
