Sup guys, so I found my old n64 in my closet and was trying to play it. I bought some new av jacks that will plug into my hdtv(red, white, yellow), since I threw out my big box tv years ago. I put in a cartridge and NOPE no video appeared and I tried with 6 different games. I blew and blew and fucking blew into that thing like a texas twister (bad) but nothing worked. I tried taking a swab and cleaning the contacts on the games, as with isopropyl too. So does anyone know how to fix or even diagnose a n64? Or any other tricks or tips I can use. Also the thing just turns on the red light but no video shows up.
Does the N64 work on a standard def TV? Like, are you sure it's the N64 itself and not your connection to your TV?
The red/white/yellow RCA jacks are pretty standard and the type of TV should be irrelevant as long as it has those inputs. It's either the N64 or the settings on your TV.
So the video doesn't appear to change at all when you turn it on? Because the screen should flicker or something for a brief second when you turn it on, even if it fails to load the cartridge.
Sure you selected the right input? on the tv?:v:
Yeah make sure you put the TV on the appropriate setting before blaming the Nintendo 64
Make sure everything is in securely (namely the memory pack).
Do you have a GameCube?
If so, try using the GameCube's A/V Cable in the Nintendo 64.
