• ASMR aka. Those Tingles You Get When You Watch Certain Videos

Hey there guys. I'm not a regular poster, but I thought I could contribute this to the forums since to my knowledge there isn't another thread about this. I remember seeing one a while ago (alhough it was a lot more vauge than this one will be) but that was several years ago now. So some of you guys may have noticed that certain video or events in the real world (for some reason it happens more with videos) give you a certain kind if pleasurable tingling sensation in your head and/or spine. It's kind of like an electric feeling or a feeling like someone is massaging your brain/skull. Some of you won't have a clue what I'm talking about. In any case, read on to find out more. So, what is ASMR? ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) is a physical sensation characterized by a pleasurable tingling that typically begins in the head and scalp, and sometimes moves down the spine and through the limbs. It's purpose and exact cause is unknown and different things trigger it for different people however it is always an external stimulus that triggers it. This stimulus usually takes the form of a relaxing video or activity. I'll post some examples as well as a list of triggers that are quite common/work for me. You may wonder what the point of ASMR is. Well, as anyone who has experienced it will tell you, it can be a very pleasureale sensation (not sexual in any way, just a nice feeling) and is also extremely relaxing. To my knowledge, not everyone experiences it to the same degree, with some people being very 'sensitive' to it and others unable to feel it at all. I don't know why this is the case. Note: This is similar but different to the shivery feeling you can get when listening to an emotional/powerful/beautiful piece of music. So, here's a list of things that often trigger it in people/me. If you've ever got a tingling sensation watching/experiencing one of these things, chances are you 'have' ASMR: Videos where someone diligently pays attention to an object/task (examples would include unboxing videos, videos of people drawing/writing, instructional videos). Videos where someone manipulates an object without speaking (so you just hear the noises of them fiddling with the object). Soft speaking/whispering, especially with a foreign accent. White noise such as hair clippers, rain or someone scratching/tapping an object. Close personal attention (or watching someone else recieve personal attention) such as a massage or a visit to the doctor/dentist. There are many videos out there specifically designed to induce ASMR in people which depict people just aimlessly playing around with items (sometimes speaking quietly or sometimes not speaking at all). Whatever causes the strongest ASMR for you, chances are there are plenty of videos that depict it. There are also many more videos that don't expressley aim to induce ASMR, but suceed in doing so (like unboxings and instructional videos as I said earlier). Here are just a few samples of things that really trigger it for me. If these don't do anything for you however, try searching ASMR on Youtube and watching a few different types of video. Also, try Sootetube which has a great compilation of relaxing and ASMR videos: Personally, I've always had ASMR. I remember having the feeling watching some TV shows when I was little and enjoying it. Later, when I started using the internet more and more I searched for similar videos to see what triggered it. Eventually, I came across the term 'ASMR' and found all the videos dedicated to inducing it. I just thought I'd share this with people so those who have it can find more videos and those who've never experienced it can see if it works for them. Please, feel free to post any good videos you find.
What the fucking shit?! I thought I was the only one on fp who had ASMR, glad to hear I'm not alone! Was actually thinking about starting a thread about ASMR the other day. My favourite ASMR channels: • TheWhisperingVoice • Amalzd • GentleWhispering
I think reddit's got their head up their ass on the naming and scientific theory behind it, but it's definitely something. Something by a fellow FPer that I find pretty cool: And just something else:
For some reason the last video is fucking annoying.
There was already a thread about this, but people stopped posting in it

That second video got me. It's like someone is giving me personal attention which makes me feel all tingly.
I'm not sure if i have this or if it's just the regular shivering, but the iron sky soundtraack gives me it always.
This kind of sounds like something that happens to me, but it feels more like a pressure than a tingling.
It's called "frission", also known as a skin orgasm. When I learned this my only response was "So molly makes your skin orgasm for 4 solid hours?"
I liked the sound of the plastic in the gundam one.
it doesnt work all that well all i got was a boner
sad scenes in war movies always give me the tingles
this happens to me in the shower [editline]25th June 2012[/editline] i have lots of showers for this reason
First video that really did it for me
This man is harnessing the power of the GODS to bring you the best massage you'll ever have.
It's cool to know that there are others here who get it too.
It's called "frission", also known as a skin orgasm.
I'm not sure if i have this or if it's just the regular shivering, but the iron sky soundtraack gives me it always.
That's called frisson, it's a different thing.
I remember listening to one of these in the later parts of the youtube screamer era. I'm laying down with a long chord so I can still listen to it with my headphones and then bam, 12 minutes in loud scream.
I'm not sure if I get the same thing and what I get isn't brought on by any of the videos in this thread but sometimes all of the hair on my head stands up straight, starting at the tip of the back of my skull and down through my beard.
pretty much the first video that made me realize i had it
I don't get it.
You know what triggers this for me? Amazing grace on the bagpipes.
There's a name for this? I thought it just happened to everyone.
There's a name for this? I thought it just happened to everyone.
I know, right? But I guess it doesn't? What gets me though is usually amazing music, mostly with violins. Anything by Lindsey Stirling. Video game music like Skyrim and Morrowind also does it. And and Sherlock Holmes music. [editline]26th June 2012[/editline] When I look through the other videos they're mostly from random sounds or experiences. Maybe the music one is what everyone has, and these other "weird" stimuli ones are the special ones.
Yeah, like I said in the OP, I'm pretty certain the thing you get from beautiful music is different. I've experienced both, and although they're similar, it is a different feeling.
