Games publishers and industry figures must "stand-up and condemn" the movement referred to as "GamerGate", developer Zoe Quinn has told the BBC. Ms Quinn has been at the centre of a furore which some argue is about ethics in journalism, but others consider to be a largely misogynist hate campaign. The 27-year-old was forced to leave her home after receiving death threats. She said publishers must "say GamerGate, and what it's been doing, is wrong". "The fact that so much of the responsibility is offloaded to the people most harmed by it, when somebody in a much safer position than I am can stand up and condemn it... it's frustrating.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-29821050
This person does not deserve any attention, let alone her voice being reported in the news
yes lets listen to the person who abused her lover and is proven to be a manipulative liar. (For a indepth look at the abuse part, Look at These videos: part 1, part 2)
Yeah, interview the person who basically influenced the start of the movement. Not like she'll be incredibly biased or anything.
I wonder how people can bring themselves to support this cunt, considering the way she acts and treats others.
is there a summary of gamergate anywhere
I don't even fucking know what gamergate even is at this point. I gave up keeping track of it after the first week. Zoe Quinn opening her mouth again is just this whole thing going full circle in my eyes I guess I'll catch up with this two years from now when people are finally able to publish a decent article about the events that actually mattered without it being biased and depressingly efficient clickbait
is there a summary of gamergate anywhere
Best not to look into it. It's a giant headache of SJWs, anger, swearing, death threats, and bad milk.
Ms Quinn has been at the centre of a furore which some argue is about ethics in journalism, but others consider to be a largely misogynist hate campaign.
1. You guys spell furor with an e at the end? 2. This sentence says it as though the purpose of GamerGate's existence is conflicted, which bothers me for some reason.

Yeah, fuck journalistic integrity! Right, billion-dollar news site?
I hate this kind of stuff. I work a somewhat high stress job... I've been shot at, I've shot at people, I've watched people die right in front of me (It was an industrial accident), I come home and I just want to sit down and enjoy playing games, the only medium where people of all walks of life come together and enjoy playing together regardless of ideological or physical attributes. My whole fucking job is politics, the last thing I want is to come home and enjoy a good game with people. Yet, the ONE thing I can unwind with is tossed into bullshit politics by an attention whore who only masquerades as someone who is fighting for women rights. For the love of god people, we just got done with the whole 'Games Cause gun Violence' shit, keep this shit away!
is there a summary of gamergate anywhere
Not a nonpartisan one.

Just start banning people posting about it, then we can all live a bit simpler.

I think people should stop talking about "gamergate" and instead just talk about journalistic ethics and misogyny separately. That word means different things to different people.
This campaign to paint GamerGate as a bunch of women hating fat people with crappy beards has been working very well, no one is even talking about ethical corruption in the industry at this point, its all about arguing on topics like this on whether GG is bad/good instead. We all know who's doing it and why, its been exposed numerous times to be a conspiracy to shut people up with a very bizarre political agenda. We've all become very apathetic towards it now which is exactly what they want; limp wristed pseudo intellectuals arguing morals instead of exposure the illegal, masonic and otherwise conspiracy level damaging agenda this campaign originally brought forward. With the BBC interviewing people like Zoe primarily tells me that these people know far more contacts than GG does, they will always get their message out first before others can, and so the GG campaign has to sit around defending itself rather than doing much else but whimpering.
I think people should stop talking about "gamergate" and instead just talk about journalistic ethics and misogyny separately. you can't go on the BBC and address a group of people and then get mad when they address you back
Yeah, fuck journalistic integrity! Right, billion-dollar news site?

"Through a snowball effect of misinformation, trolling, and ideological/emotional bias on both sides, the issue is quickly descending into a quagmire attracting trolls, extremists, and opportunists needlessly stirring the pot of controversy," said one prominent figure who backed GamerGate, but wished to remain anonymous in this article.

"Dismissing GamerGate as a misogynist hate movement is not going to make it go away, because it just simply is not that - it's a consumer boycott."
they interviewed both sides in this piece, even if the focus was more towards quinn
If gamergate wants to be taken seriously they need some leaders. The fact that any anonymous idiot can send death threats illegitimatizes the whole thing in the eyes of a lot of people. A lot of media think gamergate boils down to sweaty sexist angry nerds vs women. Not really surpised gamergate failed tbh

Gamergate is a hashtag on Twitter, the most public social network in the world. If I made a blank account and said "Fuck women, kill the Jews, hail Hitler! #GamerGate", that shouldn't mean anything when 95% of everything else said under that hashtag is vastly neutral or mildly positive. But everyone is focusing on that small percent of people who are making threats.

I thought getting the Escapist to revise their ethics policies, raising thousands of dollars for charity, removing sponsorship from game 'journalism' websites, and publicly exposing people as liars, hypocrites, and manipulators were all successes. Turns out I was wrong.
you can't go on the BBC and address a group of people and then get mad when they address you back
There's a big difference between a single person addressing a group of people by being invited by a large network to talk about the group and their personal experience with them, and a group of people addressing a single person by sending hundreds of messages ranging wildly in tone, from "Nobody cares about you, you will be forgotten," to insults about her appearance and private personal affairs, to threats of stalking, violence, and rape/death threats directed at her friends, her family, and herself. People want to talk about ethics, just as much as they want to talk about harassment. But as it stands, "GamerGate" has already been defined in the mainstream as a confused movement mired by a disproportionate amount of violent threats by a small but poisonous and unshakable core. GamerGate supporters won't be able to have the conversation they want to have, as long as they associate with a name that is tainted beyond repair. Why is the name so important to keep?
The only thing I know about all of this gamergate stuff is something to do with "Five Guys Burger and Fries."

People won't know specifically what name to use when several are brought up, people will want to stick with the old name, and the people causing problems will use whatever new tag gets big, and the opposition will just frame the new tag as the problem the same as the old one. Its just a divide and conquer trick that is older than anyone can remember. Split everyone in to smaller camps, they'll lack their concentrated power, fight with each other, and can't as effectively defend themselves.

Everything else is pretty spot on.
