A US judge has ordered actor and comedian Bill Cosby to stand trial on charges of sexual assault.
Mr Cosby, 78, is accused of drugging and molesting a former Temple University employee in his home near Philadelphia in 2004.
The case was reopened last year after more than 40 women came forward with similar accusations. No trial date has been set.
Mr Cosby has maintained that all of the encounters were consensual.
Did they find any actual physical evidence of any sort? If not, his lawyers will get him off scot free. He can afford the type of defense lawyer that can pull off such a stunt, too. Guilty or not, if thr Prosecution's case relies on testimony alone they will lose.
The only thing the prosecution offered so far was a victims testimony which the judge felt was enough to go ahead with a trial. Unless they have something else I really don't see Cosby being charged for this.

Thats the point though, it's now up to the prosecution to determine if there is evidence to substantiate the claim, they probably do have something more han just word of mouth

He admitted to drugging women so that's not going to help his case any.
It's still strange that even though he has done this in the past and was common knowledge at that point, the only reason the whole sex controversy about him popped up was because of some dumb tweet where he (or his PR team) asked to make a meme.
Pretty sure it was because of Hannibal Buress.

He admitted to giving quaaludes out for recreational purposes, which wasn't uncommon back in the day.
I think it's fucking dumb how everyone here was on his side, and people did a 180 on their opinion on him because the media dug up a deposition from ten years ago (Where lawyers sit you down and grill you with the intention of you slipping out some incriminating statements) where he said he gave out 'ludes at parties. He never said he drugged any of his accusers, and everything is still an allegation. Cosby's innocent until proven guilty.
Stuff happen 12 years ago, 40+ women claimed to be raped (but didn't file anything back then) and there are no proof other than eye witness or his own twisted words.
How can anyone think this will hold water?
Its not the first time a women-group have target a star with false rape accusations for fame, and they usually get away with no penalty for the damage.
Rape-cases shouldn't be public and the accuser should be punished, if they can't stand by their claim.

Just because someone can't prove their case through our broken legal system doesn't mean they're automatically wrong nor are they necessarily right. Claiming that they should have to be punished for not being able to legally prove rape sounds like a dangerous, dark road, my friend.

It would be incredibly stupid to punish potential victims for not being able to prove an accusation, innocent until proven guilty works both ways. If the accused can prove the accusation was false and made with malintent without a doubt, then the accuser should be punished.
The issue right now is that public opinion has no innocent until proven guilty clauses, so anyone who makes public rape accusations is knowingly or unknowingly bringing down the weight of society on someone without any justice. This is more of a problem with our society as a whole and can only really be solved long term with better education, specifically reasoning skills and imprinting the importance of innocent until proven guilty in more than just law very solidly into people at a young age. Any other solution like banning public accusations comes with a whole host of other problems that are worse than whats being solved.

People who are raped are already afraid to come out with the case, we shouldn't make it even worse for them.

it um... doesnt really matter, if he has sex with people he knowingly gave drugs to, then thats rape.....

I can see the point. Still not okay that with most of the obvious false cases, the women goes free.
Rape cases should stay out of the public, so attention-seeking women can't abuse it for the media.

You should still be held accountable for your actions and allegations.
I'll go to jail if I scream "bomb" at the airport. However it's a different story, if I see a prop that looked like a bomb.
Innocent men who are afraid of rape-cases tent to suicide regardless of the outcome, we shouldn't make it worse by ignoring fake allegations.

I'm sorry, so the definition of rape to you is "Having sex with someone you gave drugs to?" Regardless of what the purpose of the drug is? You're going to have to be more specific, because that isn't the definition of sexual assault in any court.

Rape is having sex with someone who did not consent. Under the influence of most drugs, you are not able to consent. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm fairly certain giving someone a sedative would put them in the area of not being able to consent, given that this says that tranquilizers are used in drug-assisted sexual assault, and I would assume the law in the United States says a similar thing.

Because i'm sure all cases are true, and we should prosecute without evidence right? I'm sorry, but if you make allegations the alleged victim should stand up and prove it, we can't just jump hoops because someone feels like they were raped. I can see you joined this month, which is great welcome to the community, but I can say for sure people aren't going to be all kind and dandy with things like this.

I'm not sure why you're pointing out join date when you have been here literally 30 days

Thats why if someone can be proved to have filed a false claim they should be punished.
I'm of the opinion that if it can be proved to be filed maliciously, that it is punished with the servity of what they had claimed happened.

And now we get into situations where two people who had sex while under the influence of drugs they both consumed willfully are raping each-other simultaneously. Or, if someone wants to be a sexist prick, they will say that women cant rape men and therefore it defaults to the man is guilty.

How often does that happen though? How often are you able to prove that a rape claim was falsified from the very beginning?
People who are raped are already afraid to come out with the case, we shouldn't make it even worse for them.
Especially when said rapist is an incredibly wealthy and well-connected national icon.

It happens frighteningly often.
Speaking from personal experience, I've seen false rape accusations multiple times in my life. Twice the girl ends up having a breakdown and admitting that she made it all up, once the girl taking it all the way to getting the kid charged in court.

..It is, actually. Legally someone under the influence of drugs cannot give consent. As bullshit as that is, that's how's its seen by the eyes of the law.

I was pointing out how silly his statement is, because the law is much more specific. If that line was literally the definition of rape, then giving your girlfriend some advil and banging her after would mean it was sexual assault.

12 years? He's been getting accused of a variety of sex crimes since the mid-60s. Also, rape victims are usually too afraid to come forward because of the stigma of being a rape victim, and also the possibility of being accused of lying (which happens much more often than not.)
