• ~1200$ gaming build help

I’ve decided to buy a new PC, and build it myself (will be my 1st build). The budget is 900 Euros (1220$). I live in Slovakia (Europe). I’m thinking of an ATI Radeon HD 5850 or ATI Radeon HD 5870. I wanted to get a Nvidia GPU, but none of them have DX11 support (I could use my Nvidia GT 8500 in new Pc and wait for the Nvidia DX11 GPU to come out, but that’s not really good idea). For the HDD I’m buying a 1tb one (max 150 Euro). I’ve got no idea what motherboard and CPU to buy. Im thinking of getting an Intel i7 920. Also, should I get a Blu-ray player or just regular CD/DVD reader/burner? Also, the case: I will stick with a regular one, since I don't need a too cool looking one. Games it should run: Gmod (mostly) CoD 4, World in Conflict Far Cry 2 I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, 5.1 speaker set from my current PC Thanks for help.
You don't need an i7 and 5870 to run those games. Get a 5850, an i5 750, 4GB RAM, 1156 socket motherboard, ~550W PSU, mid tower ATX case of your choice and a standard DVD drive. If you give us a website we can help you choose the parts in more detail.
Well, newegg will do as reference, but unless you are imaginative, or understand slovak, this is the shop I will be using: http://www.alza.sk/Floor.asp So, any suggestions?
Notebooky. :v:

You only need dual channel ram for the 860 so only 4 gigs of ram. Otherwise it looks very nice.
I have a question: is the socket 1366 better/worse than socket 1156? Im asking because there are 3 CPUs at same price, with different sockets. INTEL Core i7-860 Quad-Core - 2.80GHz (95W), TurboBoost 3.46GHz, 8MB L3 cache, socket 1156, BOX (Lynnfield) http://www.alza.sk/intel-core-i5-860-quad-core-2-80ghz-95w-d136079.htm INTEL Core i7-930 Quad-Core - 2.80GHz, 1x 4,8GT/s QPI, 8MB L3 cache, socket 1366, BOX (Nehalem, Bloomfield) http://www.alza.sk/intel-core-i7-930-quad-core-d155529.htm INTEL Core i7-920 Quad-Core - 2.66GHz, 1x 4,8GT/s QPI, 8MB L3 cache, socket 1366, BOX (Nehalem, Bloomfield) http://www.alza.sk/intel-core-i7-920-quad-core-d104515.htm All cost ~265 Euro Iv got NO idea which one is better. Help please!

Plus, it has lower heat output and power consumption, which is a big plus.

So, is the i7-930 any better than i7-920 apart from frequency? Im asking, because they all cost same, and Im really stuck on deciding. Also, according to wiki, the 930 is newer (so I guess it should be better) wiki list
If they cost the same get the 930, no discussion
I dint want to make another thread, so I’d like to ask, what’s the best CPU for around 300 Euro (400$). I will use the CPU for gaming, mostly. AMD or Intel? If Intel, what’s the difference between the sockets (1336 vs. 1156)? The GPU I will have: ATI HD 5850 (DX11)

in the link they even call it an i5 860 and not an i7 860 :3 anyway dont go Overpower just get an i5 750 Radeon 5850 nice 4gb Ram nice case etc... and spent the rest on drugs and games
Well how much is the i5 in that shop?
My slovak is rusty but get the i5. http://www.alza.sk/intel-core-i5-750-quad-core-2-66ghz-95w-d136077.htm (Used google translator)
Ok, thank you all, but my friend has a friend at a PC shop, so i got a HUGE discount. So, Im buying the i7-860, I wanted the 930, but they dont have it in stock. I mean, seriously, I get: monitor speakers, keyboard, mouse ATI HD 5870 i7 860 FOR 800 EURO!!!!!!! The price at alza.sk would be over 1000Euro, without monitor. Hmmm, they discount is big, so Idk, if I should bug him for the i7-930 or not.
You could but if you want the computer ASAP get the 860 but it would be nicer to get the 930! xD
I know it be cool to get the i7-930, but..... its not like im hurrying with getting the PC, but, oh well. I can be happy that I got such a big discount, that I rather wount say too much
Don't bother with the i7 930. Get the i7 920 and then overclock it and you have the exact same CPU.
Don't bother with the i7 930. Get the i7 920 and then overclock it and you have the exact same CPU.
hey yeah that's a good idea let's save $6 and have to overclock to get the same performance! what a smart use of money
Plus the 930 uses a revised design of the already highly overclockable D0 stepping and so overclocks better than the 920
Don't bother with the i7 930. Im not happy about that, but I can always upgrade later
Ill have to get the i7-860. Im not happy about that
care to say why?

Go with i5 tbh, its cheaper and perfoms a tad better for gamers
