• Using PS3 controller with steam/PC games

I have researched this a little, and found the most common way to do this is by using a program called MotionJoy My questions are: Is there a way this will mess up my other input drivers for my mouse and such? And will this make my PS3 controller unusable on the PS3(i.e. break the controller)? I could not find the answers to these questions on Google so hopefully someone will have done this before Thanks for the help!

And MotionJoy is made by Japanese people so have fun wit,h random commas and per.iods everywhere along with horrible English.
Xpadder? should be better than MotionJoy, though it costs money. And you'd probably need a separate driver, to get the PS3 controller to work in the first place with it
Is there a better one you know of that is free?
Nope. From what I've heard the wired Xbox 360 controllers work out of the box with no problems whatsoever. Also, if you really want to feel like a moron, Microsoft made a PC Gaming version that is the exact same thing. I saw it at my Best Buy yesterday.
There's no better software than MotioninJoy for it. If you install the XBox 360 controller drivers, you can emulate a 360 and instantly get compatibility with a huge list of games.

This may just work...
Please tell me you're not gonna be using this to play TF2 or any other FPS. Although, I did convert a friend to PC gaming because I hooked his Xbox controller up to his laptop, plugged in my hard drive and let him play TF2.

I just don't like anything else involving driving because of the analogue steering. I'm planning on playing Just Cause 2 with it, and Burnout Paradise (maybe Grid if it stops crashing) [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline] Okay I just tried Motioninjoy, it is very confusing but I found a good guide. It did not seem to work, and simply said 'No device found, check the device is properly connected' I'm on 64 bit, which apparently makes it a pain in the ass Anyone got any ideas?
You will never be able to get a PS3 controller to work on PC. First of all, I've tried it multiple times with everything, does not work. Second, you are using 64 bit, and the drivers to make the PS3 controller work are not compatible with 64 bit. So your screwed.

You just need the right drivers.

I've been using my PS3 controller with Windows for months with very little trouble. I'm also using 64-bit Windows.

Motioninjoy got on my nerves so I just bought a Xbox 360 controller for 20 quid off amazon
MotionJoy works "okay" it's a very picky bit of software. from my experience, as this might not apply to everyone: it must be set to launch with windows or it won't fucking work, also the controller has to be hooked up before boot, or that won't fucking work. if you have it set to emulate a 360 controller, forget to unload the driver, and then jut close motionjoy, windows won't recognize it as a 360 controller anymore, so you have to start up motionjoy, wait for it to quit dicking around and find your controller which takes too god damn long, and then unload the driver, exit, and THEN you can use your controller, and i'm not sure why it overrides the software for the 360 controller at all but whatever. but it's worth it, the 360 controller is great for only so many types of games, the dual-shock 3 is better for the rest. [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline]
Motioninjoy got on my nerves so I just bought a Xbox 360 controller for 20 quid off amazon
that's a little irrational. the software is a bitch but it's not like rocket science
I recently figured out how to make MotionJoy work over Bluetooth, so now I don't even need to plug the USB cord in anymore! :v:
I recently figured out how to make MotionJoy work over Bluetooth, so now I don't even need to plug the USB cord in anymore! :v:
the software is actually scripted mainly for Bluetooth usage and prefers Bluetooth

I've been using my PS3 controller to play Dirt2 for months on Win7 64bit. MotionJoy is a pain in the ass to set up, but once you get it working its smooth sailing. The xbox controller emulation is particularly nice, because most games already accommodate them. [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline] Wait, Trumple. Which kind of PS3 controller do you have? I remember hearing that MotionJoy didn't work with one of the older versions.
Wait, Trumple. Which kind of PS3 controller do you have? I remember hearing that MotionJoy didn't work with one of the older versions.
Ah ha. I have the original SIXAXIS controller (so not dual shock or any fancy stuff all the cool kids have now days) Does this mean it will not work?
MotionJoy works fine with SIXAXIS. I was using one on my PC for a while on 7 64-Bit just fine. They recently got their drivers signed too, so it isn't as hard to use anymore. But it is still a pain in the ass to set up at times.
I'm still having trouble. I have tried, the drivers load and it says installation successful, but it does not detect the device (I have restarted, too) Any ideas? Thanks for the help
I'm still having trouble. I have tried, the drivers load and it says installation successful, but it does not detect the device (I have restarted, too) Any ideas? Thanks for the help
1. Plug in your Playstation Controller into a new USB port. Let windows install the driver for it. 2. Boot up motionjoy in administrator mode and go to the about screen, then update it. 3. Click driver manager, then load driver. If that doesn't work you need to install the driver yourself. Which is detailed HERE 4. Remove the driver in motionjoy if you havent from the Driver manager screen then load it again. 5. Go back to the home page. Find your controller, tick Xbox 360 emulation and then click enable. 6. Send me your credit card details, bank account details and sort code. 7. If shit still doesn't work. Uninstall the PS3 controllers drivers in device manager and follow what this guide says HERE [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline] Yeah that took me an hour to figure out on my own. Your not alone. Works a charm on Super meat boy and emulators though.

I can only find it when the program first loads, so when I go to update it, I cannot find my way back to it without re-installing! Do you know where it is? Edited: Found it, I'm a derp. Edited: Brilliant, worked perfectly! The updated version also has an integrated xbox 360 emulator, so no need for other software. Currently using it with JC2 and driving games. Thanks very much to all you guys for helping
I had so much trouble trying to set up my PS3 controller with it I gave up after a while and bought a wired Xbox 360 controller. Much simpler and more convenient. But then again, I'm just lazy.
