Some reports said he would not serve jail time because of a plea deal reached with military prosecutors. Video footage of the incident shocked the world when it emerged in January. Three other Marines have already been disciplined for their role in the incident, and another is facing court martial.
I know your over there to fight the bad guy but you don't have to be any more disrespectful to someone's dead body
30 days? wow yeh that'll show him [editline]21st December 2012[/editline] at least he's getting demoted
I'm glad it wasn't too severe a sentence. They deal with alot of shit over there and having to come home only to serve years in prison would suuuuck.

Rating dumb isn't a response, man the fuck up and hit reply.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20807182
I don't know what to say, honestly. It's kinda funny, but brutal aswell. [sp]30 days in prison ain't fair[/sp]
I don't know what to say, honestly. It's kinda funny, but brutal aswell. [sp]30 days in prison ain't fair[/sp]
30 days is not brutal or unfair (maybe unfair in the regard that its light).
tbh I feel that he deserves more than that
tbh I feel that he deserves more than that
I would say nothing more than one or two years. It's fucked up, but nothing too heavy.
I would say nothing more than a year. It's fucked up, but nothing too heavy.
A year would be fine, 30 days seem like a slap on the wrist.
It's fucked up, but nothing too heavy.
Yeah, it's not like the Geneva convention specifically labels desecration and mistreatment of the dead as a war crime! Yyyep.
at first I thought it said 30 years and thought WTF to harsh but any it's not that bad I would be more pissed had he pissed on dead Civilians
I'm happy with the judgement. They go under unbelievable amount of stress fighting an unknown enemy fighting with concealed IEDs and hiding behind civilians, he fucked up but one can easily understand why.
I honestly think anything more than 30 days would be too much. Hell, even 30 days is a lot. Yes, what he did was ignorant and dumb, but the fact of the matter is that they see a lot of horrible shit, and watch a lot of people die. If he torchered a man, that'd be one thing. But he urinated on a dead body, in the context of war anything more seems like overkill.

Urinating on dead bodies is a huge no-no. 2000th post.
You're un-fucking-believable if you think he deserves this sentence, or, god help you, a lighter one. If your troops can't show basic discipline they shouldn't be given permission to wield a firearm, let alone kill someone. Getting 'stressed' is no excuse to desecrate the other side's corpses. If a Taliban fighter 'got stressed' and decided to piss on a dead American soldier, he'd probably be in Guantanamo. They are very stressed in that photo, indeed, with all of their smiles.
Facepunch's collective reactions can be very disappointing sometimes. This is one of those times.
It's a shame the opposition don't have similar laws that apply even though I agree this is quite unacceptable. He should have known better, but I don't see why he shouldn't receive just a slap on the wrists for this.. It's probably something he immediately did in the heat of the moment and immediately regretted.

Their facial expression does not necessarily betray their emotional or mental state. 30 days may seem light to a civilian, but what happened to him essentially amounted to a cashiering. His career is over, and he will be shunned wherever he is in the military, and being demoted is kind of a huge deal, especially for a SSgt.

Not that it's a justification or anything, they should have restraint in those types of situations.

It's not restricted to the military. Being demoted anywhere is a big deal, and this guy deserves it.

peeing on a dead body doesnt do anything reminds me of insulting god or something
So then explain the reasoning that since his life is essentially over, a 30 day sentence is too little.
'Cause he pissed on a corpse and that's forbidden. There are rules, gotta stick to them. Even tho I'm fine with 30 days, if he had more, that wouldn't be unfair, that'd be justice.
So why did he do something as childish as pissing on a dead body?
"It was the heat of the moment, you weren't there maaaaaaan."
Well, you killed the guy, that's okay. Just don't pee on him, that would be disrespectful.
So then explain the reasoning that since his life is essentially over, a 30 day sentence is too little.
You realize we give everyone who commits a crime a full sentence, and then a wound on their record? This man is missing the 'full sentence' bit. He is only getting a dash on his record. [editline]21st December 2012[/editline]
peeing on a dead body doesnt do anything reminds me of insulting god or something
Yeah, neither does raping a dead person, or cutting them up and planting them in your garden. It's the principle behind it, stop with this nihilism when it comes to dead people.
