Microsoft to launch an app in attempts to rival Steam

Microsoft is building on their games for windows platform with digital content store.
Copy pasta ensues:
It's called Games on Demand (not quite as punchy as 'Steam'), and it's now part of the Games for Windows Life platform. While the list of big-name games available at launch is short -- Resident Evil 5 is the only stand-out title -- there is the usual slew of cheap-and-cheerful titles available, like the wonderful World of Goo (as reviewed in our Holiday Gift Guide).
Games on Demand will enable Windows users to purchase LIVE-enabled games directly from the Games for Windows LIVE app. Microsoft's mission? "Our goal has always been to create a seamless online gaming experience for the Windows community, and Games on Demand is a great step toward that end."
It's not initially clear what Microsoft intends to bring to the market with Games for Windows LIVE. It's basically a clone of Xbox LIVE: achievements, gamerscores, voice chat -- it's all there. But other than 'TrueSkill' matchmaking, I can't really see what Games for Windows LIVE brings to the dirty, sticky, crumb-strewn gaming table.
It's clear that Microsoft has decided to turn its steady, Sauron'ish gaze upon Valve's Steam. It's clear that they fancy a bit of Steam's lucrative, virtual monopoly of the PC games-on-demand market. What isn't so clear is just how they're going to dissolve Valve's empire. It takes work to integrate games into a framework such as Steam or Games for Windows; Microsoft better have something juicy up its sleeve to entice game developers. Like, er, paying the developers for exclusive distribution rights. I can hardly wait...
This can only end in tears, there is absolutely no way Microsoft can even begin to compete with Valve in the PC market. Steam has been around for far too long already and has too much of a fan base. Not to mention if they keep up the ridiculous Microsoft Points system of currency then they are just asking for failure.
Games for WIndows LIVE sucks though, so we don't have to worry about Microsoft ever coming close to Steam.
No thanks.
Abbreviated to GoD, sounds like something Microsoft would try and make.
Microsoft is a follower, never an innovator anymore. They need to think ahead of what everyone else is doing.

Oh god. Fuck microsoft. All their game related apps/software sucks and the creators should be shot.
The problem is that they will most likely bundle this with Windows and as such will end up 'dominating' the market either way, although we'll always know which is better.
I really hope they won't have too many games on demand exclusives.

It's all made by Indians.
Why did they go through with this?
Have they played their games?
This'll probably flop like Zune
Just fuck off, Microsoft. Nobody likes you
Wow.
This will end bad.
I like using steam for its great ambiance, easy to use interface and great customer support.

Steam is just awesome
As mentioned earlier, Games for Windows LIVE sucks. It is a terrible service. Why would anyone want to use that.
And no doubt GoD games have GFWL. I'll stick with Steam. It has all the games I want, anywhere I want, and has yet to give me any major problems (the occasional "Game is not available" can hardly be considered more than a slight annoyance).
Steams Response: "Just to prove how cool we are, we are making all our games 75% off!"
Microsofts Response: "Just to prove how cool we are, we are making all our games' prices increased by 75%!"
Yea, good luck ever countering Steam Client.
Microsoft is great, they gave us Windows, but if they want to make a smart move they should team up with valve to make the ultimate gaming company :science:
Steam will beat this thing like it beats all the others. Would Microtransaction, err I mean Microsoft, have sales on any of the games it hosts?

Strangely that's actually a fucking great idea.
But has Microsoft ever teamed up with anyone? I can't recall.
If they start buying out selling rights to games and make me have to buy said games on microsoft I'll be mad.

Oh dear god no. Microsoft had their chance already.

You don't have to like Microsoft to like Windows. Apple and its products are irrelevant.

Steam seems so nice when it has these random sales, makes me think steam actually thinks of the consumer.

It's a great way to get discounts. Also, at Best Buy, if you tell them something is being sold on sale on steam, they will discount it as well :D

See the funny thing is, Gabe and the other founding employees at Valve originally came from Microsoft. Seeing as they left, I doubt the would go back.

And if they did team up, we can say "Goodbye" to those nice discounts.
I love how you people mindlessly jump on the GFWL SUCKS OMG MICROSHIT HAS ABANDON US 4 EXBAWKS!!111 bandwagon.
:bandwagon:
It's a perfectly fine system. Get over it.
