Physicists at the Large Hadron Collider would like your help in studying the Higgs Boson. It’s true that they found the Higgs boson—which is responsible for giving all particles their mass—nearly two years ago, but its exact behavior is still mysterious. Now, the scientists are asking coders to develop algorithms that can reveal the Higgs’ properties.
..
Those who enter the competition will be asked to sift through a ton of data and separate the signal from the noise. If your program can do this better than anyone else’s, you’ll win. The first place prize is $7,000, second place is $4,000, and third place is $2,000. According to the competition description, “The winning method may eventually be applied to real data and the winners may be invited to CERN, the home of the LHC, to discuss their results with high energy physicists.”
Facepunch has some smart people, maybe someone here can help further scientific knowledge firsthand with this contest (and possibly pocket some cash!)
It's going to be teams at universities and companies looking for publicity. Individuals have no chance.
Well now, this is gonna get quite interesting. Hopefully this competition truly does help us understand the sorceries within the Higgs boson, and how to apply them to fields of super-science.
Man, if I were better at the math side of programing I'd totally be all over this
ez money

Uhh. Wrong.
