And I was just starting to look forward to Minecube and Slender 7: The Pre-boarding.
Not as long as every Minecraft/DayZ clone gets the upvotes of kids.
It's implied they're going to improve it somehow, not remove it.
The idea of Greenlight is good, the problem is when there's a trend for a certain kind of game and every 12 year old votes for every game that is similar to it(e.g. slender and minecraft).
"Our goal is to make Greenlight go away," said Valve president Gabe Newell (via VentureBeat). "Not because it's not useful, but because we're evolving."
They don't intend to get rid of it, they want to replace it with something that works better.
[editline]Yes[/editline]
Oh for fucks sake.

Well, if we find a way to get rid of that, then there's the possibility of potentially good games not being able to pass greenlight just because of a similar idea. It is probably the largest issue with Steam at the moment, to release a game you need to reach out to Valve, and they have some quality control going out afaik. The only thing Greenlight does is basicly show them that "Yes, people will buy this", but it'll still all depend on Valve to decide. That's kind of a huge flaw with the way greenlight works. Of course, at the same time it's kind of a good thing because it prevents cheap game knockoffs to happen like they do in the Android market
Whatever happens it got postal 2 on steam so it has been worth it anyway
If we're lucky, Greenlight will go away before Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme can ever get Greenlit. Not like it's ever going to get Greenlit in the first place.

I'd take that over the nth Slender/Minecraft/DayZ clone anyday

So the problem is not the system, it's just the audience, in a manner of speaking.

If it goes the way I think it's going to go, such amazing titles wouldn't have to go through Greenlight. The Steam part of steam just becomes the Store's homepage.
I'm really curious to see the "improvement" on the greenlight.
give it the ability to downvote games and when a shit game gets downvoted enough it gets banned from greenlight
give it the ability to downvote games and when a shit game gets downvoted enough it gets banned from greenlight
This would never work out because people can just raid games they don't like and get them banned.

No, that would be terrible! I want that game to get greenlit so bad.
Not because I want to PLAY it or anything. God no. I just want to gift it to all my friends. Like Bad Rats.

/v/ is giving it tonnes of positive votes because it pisses off some transgendered users and after a playthrough by an anon.
Worst part: it's succeeding. According to the artists DA, the game has over 3,000 yes votes. It's pretty close.

It's the art of a horny 12 year old learning how to drawn anime.
I think the shit thing about early access games is that some of them suck so fucking hard.
Like Castle Story and Planetary Annihilation (Controversial). Disappointments of the century.
This would never work out because people can just raid games they don't like and get them banned.
One bad move from a PR dude and everything goes to hell with a system like that.
Interesting news.. I never cared much for Greenlit games par a few.
Well Blockland got Greenlit, thanks for that.

Neither of those games are nearly finished though?
Neither of those games are nearly finished though?
yeah but it's on steam so it must be done, right?
Didn't gabe say that they want to open up steam but have different storefronts? Like, you can make a storefront of games that you think are good and people can use your storefront to find good quality games instead of having to trudge through piles of garbage. Kind of like the steam workshop collections thing.
And they will probably still have a hundred dollar submission fee

That seems to be what they want to move towards.

Yeah but Castle Story is nothing like it's supposed to be/ described to be/ presented to be.
It plays like an amateur's attempt at making an RTS.
In it's current state, it should be free, because it's terrible. In the last few months it appears like the developers have really been doing little to no work.
I'm concerned that at this rate, they're going to lose interest and never develop it past the current state into a real game.
Planetary Annihilation is a significant improvement, but still very meh.
Castle Story is / was a scam. Kinda obvious they took the money and ran.
Steam is in a position to protect consumers from this bullshit but won't.
That seems to be what they want to move towards.
Cool. I like that idea. It gives small devs like me more of a chance.
