• The Unites States of America and How it is Not The Name of Our Country.

Or so my World History teacher said. He pretty much explained that "The United States of America" is just a description of our country and not an actual title. We cant simply name ourselves America because Canada and Mexico are also technically American since we all reside in North America. So what my teacher is saying is that we have yet to actually name our country. Now I kinda understand both ways, really. I asked my mom this and she pretty much called my teacher a retard. I'd like to hear your input on this. It's been something that's been bugging me all day.
Well the CIA world factbook calls it the United States of America so...
No, the name of our country is the United States of America, you blubbering tard. In french it's even estat-unite or some shit like that.
Canada is "The Sort of United Provinces and Territories of America" then, I guess. Yup, I'm from SUPTA
Your teacher is a retard.
The people who named the country derived it from what they called the new world, they just weren't very creative i guess. Also this,
Your teacher is a retard.
Haha don't call me the retard I'm not the one that came up with this.
Your teacher is an idiot. Your teacher should be fired lol.
Haha don't call me the retard I'm not the one that came up with this.
Yet you posted it.
Um, the United States part refers to the multiple political divisions that make up our country, and to distinguish this from the many other countries that have states (including Mexico) we added of America so as not to get foreigners confused. Your teacher shouldn't have graduated high school.
Your teacher is retarded. Like saying "Russian Federation" is just a description of their country. Or "United Kingdom."
Scotland is just a description of the land of scots.
Ya' don't see Mexicans and Canadians, and Brazilians, and Argentinians, and Panamanians, and Cubans, and all the other people in the Caribbean, North, and South America calling themselves Americans.
I kind of see where the OP is coming from, but it's still stupid. Kind of like the province of "Newfoundland". You could call it a description if you wanted, but it IS the official name.
It isn't called the Unites States of America... it's the United States of America. :cop:
throw gasoline on your teacher and light him on fire he isn't american probably some communist gook
Your teacher is an idiot.
It isn't called the Unites States of America... it's the United States of America. :cop:
Fuck. :3:
Ya' don't see Mexicans and Canadians, and Brazilians, and Argentinians, and Panamanians, and Cubans, and all the other people in the Caribbean, North, and South America calling themselves Americans.
Actually they do. Most get offended if you're visiting and say "I'm from America." You're supposed to tell them "I'm from the states." They consider themselves Americans as well.

We are the United States of America, not America, as we are commonly referred to as. I call us The Union.
New Britain.

The name 'America' comes from the surname of a Welsh guy.
I've only heard people say "I'm from the US". And no, we don't consider ourselves Americans. We consider ourselves Canadians.
Not Canadians, I mean if you're visiting Central or South America.
United States of America = Right America = Mexico, Canada and USA Your teacher is right Your mom need a powerpunch in the face, sorry but it's true, just as everyone that think USA = America
Is your mom a patriot? If so, promptly cunt punt her.
United States of America = Right America = Mexico, Canada and USA Your teacher is right Your mom need a powerpunch in the face, sorry but it's true, just as everyone that think USA = America
You didn't read the OP properly did you?
Lets all officially name it Facepunch.
Your teacher is retarded. Like saying "United Kingdom." is just a description of their country.
Seeing as it the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" it is a description of this country. So i suppose you could use the same kinda logic with the usa, but what do i know eh i'm only a window cleaner
