• What do you think of my solo?

I made a few mistakes but this my original solo to an original song. I suppose I could post the full song too but it doesn't sound that amazing without other instruments =/ Constructive criticism is helpful.. this is only my third time trying to come up with an original solo... so I'm not the greatest. I like the Iron Maiden sound you're going for, fairly simple solo but it can only get better.
Thanks. I had trouble filling space because my band wanted it to the progression in the background played 4 times while I solo... when I only planned on two. Hopefully it will work out, I think it sounds decent so far.
If you like how it sounds overall, but you find it doesn't "jump" enough, or it's not exciting enough for the song, find different ways to get to the notes. Moar bends, string skipping, maybe a quick tap. Sounds good though.
Agree with TheWiseTruth, some tapping would be awesome!
that sounds pretty cool, it could be a bit louder than the rhythm part though.
I'm trying to learn improv at the moment, what scales did you use for this?
I'm trying to learn improv at the moment, what scales did you use for this?
I used a little minor pentatonic and mostly aeolian (natural minor) scales. I came up with most of it the first time we played the song but now I'm just refining it and adding parts. I thought about it but I just can't decide where it should go.
It's not too bad. I think the only problem is that you're going up and down the scales too much without "jumping" between the notes.
It's not too bad. I think the only problem is that you're going up and down the scales too much without "jumping" between the notes.
For the last part I sort of go up the scale on purpose, but I do see what you mean for the rest of it too.
You could put it right around 0:22 to 0:27 0:29 to 0:35 seems a bit...empty almost? and maybe a few moar notez at the end of it certainly don't mean to be rude, just offering some insight

I advice is always great. It helps me improve my solo. I might try to find another part to place the tapping because 29:35 is part of the melody of the song and it sounds cool to me to put it in there. I was thinking somewhere at the very end with just a quick tapping.
that sounds pretty cool, it could be a bit louder than the rhythm part though.
Yeah I agree. I had my loop station a little higher than my playing at the time. My biggest worry about my next performance (less than a month) is not being loud enough or being too loud. Last time I wasn't loud enough so I'm turning up a bit and turning my loop station down a bit... as well as turning my midrange up too.
Feels like it's dragged on for too long.
Leave 0:35 - 0:42 like it is (maybe add some slide to the end) I would say that 0:29 - 0:35 is the best part for tapping, hmm, I think. A little louder and more soloish sound would make it sound better.
Feels like it's dragged on for too long.
I thought so too, but in context it doesn't sound so dragged on. Plus my band wanted it this long. You know how I play that riff in the background 4 times? Originally I just played those last two and that was my solo, but we thought it was too short (you would agree if posted the whole song). Speaking of which I might just post the whole song in about a month after we perform.
