• I think my PC died

Here are my computer specs: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009371/1009371cl4.shtml Except about a year ago, I upgraded my PSU to a 750W one so I could install my NVIDIA 460 GPU. It has worked perfectly on my end with gaming and watching videos and such. Here's what happened: One night I shut it off after working perfectly all day as usual. Next morning (yesterday) I turn it on and I get a black screen and it didn't seem like the OS was installed. In fact I waited maybe 4 hours and Windows Vista never loaded. I took the OS and tried reinstalling it (Windows Vista 32bit). Windows started setting up again. Though it took a LONG time just to get through step 1. I'm talking maybe 3 hours. After "step 1" of installation was finished I get the following: So I shut my computer off, took out the OS disc. Tried it again. Same thing happened. I took it out again, and now this is all I get: Help!! What can I do?
I shudder at the thought of gateway builds. This is a hardware malfunction. Well, first order of business, follow the directions the blue screen of death gave you. Particularly, make sure all the ram is seated properly. If it is, it's possible that one of your modules crapped out on you. Take all of your ram out and just stick one in, revert from your 460 back to your old card. Also revert back to your old psu. I say this because it's always a possibility that one of your new parts is flawed. If you still get this problem, then it could mean that your mobo has malfunctioned, maybe it took some static when you installed the video card, maybe the video card wasn't seated properly and fried the chipset. Frying a component doesn't always mean it becomes destroyed and inoperable. Most of the transistors can remain intact when a single module fries, the mobo will still work, sort of, but it will not function properly, if it even functions at all.
Double-check connections on everything, especially your HDD. Does the HDD spinup correctly? After that "Port-00: No Device Detected", does anything else get printed before it switches to the intel boot agent? I'm going down the line of HDD failure here, but 0x8086 apparently is a CPU fault (what?)
Update: So I found an old Ubuntu CD I got a long time ago.. it is Ubuntu 8.. and it worked booting it just from the CD. Though I'm not sure why, but maybe because there aren't any GPU drivers, but the whole screen has a low resolution (see image). What does this tell me? RAM is okay right? CPU is okay I'm assuming. Has to be the HDD? Should I try installing Ubuntu? [editline]20th December 2011[/editline] Okay so I tried installing it and I got this error: So either my HDD is fried or there is a connection problem with the HDD. What should I do? Could it be something else besides the HDD?
See if your ubuntu has the disk tool. Check your SMART info.
Looks like your hardrive use the utility on that ubuntu disc to see if the HDD is working right. Here's what your pc is doing it's looking for a harddrive at boot finding nothing and going to the next boot option in the list which is boot from lan in this case.
