I recently got this card to replace my 9800 GX2, (It broke) and performance in everything seems to be considerably worse than the other card. Considering they are both generally the same, why would the performance in games be worse on the HD 4870? It is mainly when there is fire or multiple objects on the screen, which the other card could handle fine. Any solutions?
Did you install the drivers for it?

Yeah. Why would I not do something so important?

Make sure your computer is actually using the card. Run dxdiag.exe and check to see if the computer sees your gpu. If it doesn't and gives a bunch of n/a crap, then the drivers you installed aren't working.
This happened to me not too long ago when I reinstalled XP.

It does detect it. I was thinking I would need to update my bios, I had a similar problem with the previous card. However, when I run the setup and it goes to automatically restart my system, it just shuts off, so I can't install it.
Some cards run better on better games and vise-versa is probably why it is running slow but to artifact would probably mean it is overheating. Try cleaning it off, if that doesn't work maybe some of your fans in your computer don't work. People above me who said the drivers thing listen to them also.

I've seen it happen before.
