This time last year I bought 2x 2gb DDR2 800 RAM for $40. I'm looking on newegg and the cheapest I can find it is $70. What happened to make it go up in price so much?

I don't know, but it pisses me the fuck off.
phew luckily i bought it for 59.99 a few months ago ;)
You think DDR2 took a rise? Look for regular old fashioned DDR1 RAM and talk about expensive.
I suspect it's got something to do with DDR3 having little benefit in domestic use, so more people are sticking with DDR2. I recall reading DDR3 was better for the likes of servers doing intense calculations on huge volumes of data, not video games. Could just be the fact that there's still demand for it.
Oh wow, the DDR2 800 that I bought 5 months ago has almost doubled in price :byodood:
Edit: wait I don't need it anymore, now I can sell it for a profit :smug:
Woah, Very true. The cheapest 2GB stick is $39 on the .com,
On the .ca, I found: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145247
About $25 a stick.

Try again, with SDRAM.

Of course the prices of that and DDR1 are going to rise since almost nothing uses them anymore, DDR2 is still quite popular.
Haha, I just got 4gb of DDR3 RAM for $75 a couple weeks ago.
And it was G.Skill and came in that same box.

I just checked the DDR3 I bought about 3 weeks ago, it's gone up a couple of bucks.

xram
The transition between DDR2 and DDR3. I also heard that its manufacturing cost has gone up, but I can't confirm it.
ddr2 is just "going"

$60 for a DDr1 512mb stick here while a 2x2Gb DDr2 = $60

Although this may be true, I have noticed a significant increase in performance from DDR2 to DDR3. Although the fact that an i7 processor was also a major jump from my dilapidated quad core may also explain it.
less is being made as ddr3 is now the standard
The DDR2 1066 RAM I bought a few months ago has more than doubled in price :crossarms:
I paid 40$ for 4gb ddr2 800 gskill ram, now its more than that for 2gb :C
I got my 2gb pc6400 for 395kr, now it costs 549 wtf
Shit man, I can sell my 6 gigs of DDR2 800 and build a whole new computer.
Is it just me or did any body else think OP meant Dance Dance Revolution 2? I'm serious.

This is the PC forum, not Asian appreciation area.

Maybe they're trying to stop peoples from buying that shit.
I bought 2x2gb DDR2 for $40 last year.
It is so rarely used now, so people stop making them and the supply goes lower. Quickly buy lots while you can now and makes millions in 5 years :smug:
Because low demand makes it easy to sell.

Yes, I know that, but I when I saw it I just immediately thought Dance Dance Revolution.
Wasn't there a large tsunami in the region of the world where most RAM is made?
