When I saw the title, I thought it was talking about giant normal TVs on caster wheels.
Imagine being able to 3D print one of those. It'd be like that one scene in Ultraviolet where Violet bought a printed payphone from a vending machine, only it's a freaking television in parchment form.
Man, if you showed this to a 14th century monk they would think it's some form of magick scroll. That said they'd probably call a regular flatscreen television a "moving portrait". The point is this thing looks like freakin' magic compared to the standard flatscreens we've been using for the past decade or so, even if it's probably not as big a jump as the leap from cathode ray tubes to LCD and LED was. Though thin and flexible, hopefully they'll be pretty hard to accidentally destroy or rip apart.
While it'll be really neat to see this technology go into active use, the real gem will be when this stuff becomes touch enabled. We'll have hit the level of tech of so many sci-fi movies by then.
Sounds like it'd be awesome, but I imagine that a touch interface on a flexible surface would act rather strangely, as in you'd probably barely be able to make it work right, let alone do work on it.
With current technology, a touchscreen flexible optical surface like what you imagine would probably flop like a Newton when you try to write Eat Up Martha on it, but with better tech and working out how the hell to make flexible touchscreens work, it would be a nice little thing.
Waiting for a roll-on screen on your car windshield as an aftermarket HUD addon.
I don't know why but when I read the title I thought

I thought about spherical tvs while the page loaded for some reason

I'd take this over paper-thin televisions any day.
Waiting for a roll-on screen on your car windshield as an aftermarket HUD addon.
Why would you want that when there are already aftermarket projectors that project HUD elements on the windshield that are both already available, and cheap and plentiful.
the idea of having a wifi enabled screen on my windshield is fucking terrifying
imagine, just driving through a neighborhood, the screen going onto a black picture or something and covering up your view, causing you to crash
People always imagining these weird as shit worst case scenarios that will never get even close to ever happening...
Imagine people like you 50 years ago. "Oh my god imagine how horrible it would be if we had these tiny mobile phones! What if it rang while you're driving, causing you to crash?!"
Waiting for a roll-on screen on your car windshield as an aftermarket HUD addon.
make it detachable, stick it on your roof, open all doors and turn up the speakers. You would be the coolest guy in a traffic jam
except a screen on your windshield could totally be hacked into by anyone with a computer and a router, or a phone
its similar to how simple laser pointers are still a huge problem for airplanes and helicopters
As if cars weren't hackable as they are.
Honestly, french cars are scary to drive. CPU goes apeshit and decides it's time for random safety mode, deactivates gas pedal on a highway and controls the engine on it's own. Had this happen to me, potentially lethal.

you sure know a lot about this nonexistant hypothetical technology

of course they're going to make these touch screen in the future
shit, show a macbook air to somebody in the 1970s and they'd call you a fucking liar

Just imagine driving through the countryside when suddenly someone hacks your windshield and you're forced to do the rest of the travel with meatspin/lemonparty all over it. Fate worse than death I tell ya.
I wonder what it'd look like stacked up to form a 3d cube display
I'd rather clothes be made out of them so I can constantly change outfits to confuse people

How would you changing outfits confuse people?
How would you changing outfits confuse people?
Because clothes don't usually change drastically in design while used in public? :v:
oh god
flip smart phones that flip open into a full smart phone

I had to have my friend copy paste me the text from the article because it won't load, but, is there anything about it being transparent? like when it's not on?

When I commit a crime, they'll be looking for a guy dressed a certain way, not the guy covered in a brick texture

You'd prefer a bowling ball that could crack open if it fell on the floor over an extremely light, versatile, and possibly durable sheet that would simply float to the ground? Adios, caveman.

I think he means to say he prefers style and design over the "thin, light, revolutionary" that's been coming out of every consumer electronics manufacturer for a decade.
Can't say I blame him, but stuff like this enables new products with style and panache. It just very rarely gets used for them.
