Okay, quick summary of my situation, my old ATI Radeon HD4890 graphics card overheats, and gets permanently fucked, and I need a new one.
My dad says he is going to pay £100 of the cost of whatever graphics card I want, and I'm having a hard choice choosing. I'm wanting something that is better than my old gfx card, and able to run most upcoming modern games well. I was thinking something like the ATI HD 5*** series, but I'm not sure, so I need your help deciding.
Thanks in advance.
if the only problem is it's overheating then did you try cleaning the dust and crap out of the heatsink yet
post a screenshot of speccy and tell us what PSU you have
would be very helpful to have a definite budget
i've heard the gtx 560 ti is a nice one, and it's only about 136 pounds, so you won't have to pay much

where are you seeing 560tis for £140, they're £170+
We tried everything to the card, it's pretty much beyond repair.
Budget wise, I'm open to anything really, there is a good chance I could be getting a hold of £100 + of my own money soon.
And my PSU is 850watts.

Those are my specs, just ignore the ATI X1950 gfx card, it's embarrassing.
What brand and model?
probably http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-asus-gtx-560-ti-directcu-ii-4000mhz-gddr5-gpu-830mhz-384-core then
What brand and model?
Of GFX Card? Preferably an ATI, but I don't mind what model, just as long as it is better than my previous.
If you still want it within the £100 budget then This one: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/atiradeongraphicscards/atihd5700series/asus/90-c1cnv1-l0uay0bz.html
If you are going to put extra money towards it then I would go for this one: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/atiradeongraphicscards/atihd6800series/msi/r6870twinfrozrii.html
OR
This one: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx560tifermiseries/N560GTX-TF2.html
Hope ive helped :]
I'm quite tempted to go for the GeForce GTX 560 TI thingmy.
Of GFX Card? Preferably an ATI, but I don't mind what model, just as long as it is better than my previous.
Power supply.
where are you seeing 560tis for £140, they're £170+
tbh i looked on newegg and converted the usd price into pounds so that may not be the most accurate thing in the world
Okay, I'm thinking about going for a GTX 570, does anyone know where I could find a good discount on one?
Scan's Today Only sometimes.
http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/index.aspx#6
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1280mb-pny-gtx-570-40nm-3800mhz-gddr5-gpu-732mhz-shader-1464mhz-480-cores-dl-dvi-mhdmi
cheapest I've seen, but I don't think I've ever seen it in stock
there's an MSI 570 for around £240, it's out of stock at the moment but that's usually the cheapest model that's in
I have no idea how good novatech's support is but there's also http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx570fermiseries/N570GTX-M2D12D5.html
I'm on the verge of getting it, just one more thing: Is this card good? Is it better than my old one and will it be running upcoming modern games really well?
yes, yes and yes

it's also the quietest out of all those cards tested

It's very good.

I love how it professes to burn it's way through WoW: Cataclysm as if it's actually a demanding game.

I know, that comment actually put me off a little bit, it's not that impressive that a card can run WoW.
Even if you ditched the GPU and forced 30 asian chicks in your basement to run the numbers you'd be able to play wow with a respectable framerate
