Not quite sure if this is the correct forum for this, I see threads similar to this in this one so I'm just going to assume.
Allow me to keep this as simple as I can get.
Request
I have 2 Hard Drives, one with Vista (the one I'm currently using) another with XP. Basically, I just want to hook up the XP drive and be able to pick which one I want to boot with (while still having access to the Vista one through "my computer" or the like).
Problem
I Google'd this of course, and that didn't help much, most of the steps I saw started with "Install XP first", this is not possible for me, the hardrive with XP came with XP on it already, thus I have no disk, infact, I lost my disk to wipe it, so I can't even do that, not that I want to, it has alot of things I'd rather not lose.
So that narrowed my searches down to basically nothing, I couldn't find anything that would clearly explain to me how to "hook up 2 HD with the OS already installed and dual boot" without running into the XP issue.
I am currently at a loss, I believe I saw a few ways to do this, but it was technobable that I didn't quite understand and had the flaw of screwing up my Vista HD if I didn't do it correctly.
I need the instructions to be clean and clear. I'm not totally computer illiterate, it's just that I've never bothered with dual booting, so I have virtually no knowledge on anything that has to do with it.
So I come to Facepunch as a last resorts of sorts. All I want to know is how to do what is in my request.
Information about the Drives in-case needed
1) They are not the same drives (different brands and space capacity)
2) They are both SATA
3) I can access the XP-HD through my Vista one if I hook it up (meaning I can go into it through Vista and drag an drop things from the XP hardrive into the Vista one, I basically want to be able to do the exact opposite of this)
I found several instructional videos on YouTube for this. Use terms like 'dual boot vista and xp' and use 'with vista first' or something. Don't forget to watch the video all the way though before you actually do it.
