that one is actually not too bad at that price honestly.
Yep, those are actually some decent prices if you can't be arsed building your own PC, especially when you also get a steam controller included. I wonder what caused them to make these 200$ discounts so soon. Did literally noone buy one of these when they released them? :v:
Those are really good prices for prebuilts and for the size. My casual friend wants one, does anyone know if he can grab the medium spec version and later upgrade the cpu/GPu/ram if he wants?

Yeah most people aren't buying them because steam link is actually doing really well.
It would be cool if the Steam Machines actually sold well, maybe good PCs would finally get a bit less expensive to build.
the value for that medium spec one is amazing actually
Would probably get one if I had a spare $589 laying around. Hell, even the one with a Core i3 would be better than my current computer.
Question is if you have to spend another $100 on a windows license.

SteamOS is pre installed so yes, but windows keys are like $40 on some sites.
I wish they were preinstalled with Windows instead of Steam OS

Then expect $50-$100 added cost. Then the win7 vs win8 question comes up, bitching all around, etc.
Less headache and cost to just throw their own OS on it and leave that shit up to the user.
I just hope that steamOS isn't a bunk
the steam controller is amazing and the vive is hopefully even more amazing but not sure about steamos yet

Care to name a site?

SteamOS is basically just Debian with some changes made. Anything that has a Linux port on Steam will work on it.
