I hope there are more gameplay moments or ingame scenes like in Half-Life.
As much as I liked MGS4, they did seem to take away a lot of the gameplay, especially after the 2nd Act, South America. The last 3 acts just felt like a massive epilogue (not to mention the actual ending was an hour or so long) MGS3 did it wonderfully so it's great to have this clarified.
So there won't be 9 hours like last time? I suppose i can deal with it.
Ah, ok then. Let me just mark the day it comes out as the day the first Perfect. game came out.
I really hope that there will be loads of seamless transitions from cutscene to gameplay like there was in that E3 trailer. I really don't know why but I really fucking love games that do that like, for example, Max Payne 3.
"Exploring the world means less instances of control being taken from the player." It just gets better and better. More power to the player is gonna do this game a world of good.
MGS4 got to the point where the total amount of game was about five to six hours if you didn't watch the cutscenes. It was a good game but it was silly. [editline]14th June 2013[/editline] And he specifically said non interactive cutscenes so I imagine them being like Assassins creed.
I hope another game does the comic-like style of PW and PO. Those were really really nice, but I don't see it working on a major system.
I think we'll get another MGS3. As in, another really really really kickass MGS.
I just hope they take some cues from MGS4 with the actual gameplay.
Peace Walker did a good job with Gameplay to Cutscene ratio.
ingame scenes like in Half-Life.
Nah, standing around in a room listening to 2 people talk gets really really old after a while.

[editline]14th June 2013[/editline]
the mgs4 briefing segments come to mind bump into everything to get items listen to people talk in the same camera angles
With the older setting, I hope they go back to the still image/ low res camera style.
I didn't mind MGS4's massive cutscene time. The game actually took the time to tell a story and I like it for that. Granted, while I did wish the gameplay sections were longer, they were absolutely fine. Not to mention the gameplay changed slightly from act to act. Such as open warfare in the middle east, guerilla warfare/sneaking and tracking in south america. Still, glad we'll be getting more gameplay with MGS5. I'm only getting more and more excited for this game. Kojima, if I have any one request for this game, its bringing back the survival mechanics of MGS3 and refining them. Still, doesn't change the fact this thing will be an absolute blast once it releases.
Oh, so it won't have a cutscene-to-gameplay ratio > 50% this time? Sweet.
Oh, so it won't have a cutscene-to-gameplay ratio > 50% this time? Sweet.
It's an unbalanced ratio compared to most games but MGS4 still look me 12 hours to beat my first time through. Longer than most SP games (not including RPG's)
Why? I like a game that's all "no, don't bother pausing. Take a nap, we'll be here when you wake up."

It's painfull to say but I prefer a game to be more of an emergent story than a cinematic one. Sure you can include some cutscenes, but you should imho be able to tell a games story inside of the game itself. Not use the game as method to move from story segment a to story segment b. That's not to say not include scripted events but keep the whole thing as seamless as possible. Or at least keep the story within the mechanics if at all possible. Half life 1 and 2 is a particularly good example of such a method. The game includes large amounts of scripted content, but very few actual cutscenes in the sense like metal gear does. other good examples are PS:T, system shocks, deus ex and well, older games in general. MGS4 was a really bad offender in the gameplay|cutscene divide. The game essentially only used gameplay to move you from one cutscene to another. It certainly made for a very cinematic experience, but it wasn't a very gamey one.
I hope there are more gameplay moments or ingame scenes like in Half-Life.
you mean the ones that make playing through a second time grating and awful, because not everyone wants to spend 30 years inside of kleiner and eli's labs throwing around books and climbing shit?

Then again...I can't get past Act 1 on that difficulty without wanting to put my head through a brick wall in frustration. Anyway, we don't have to worry because MGS5 looks like its going to trump everything MGS4 did. Which I can only call a good thing.

Play the bike chase on that difficulty, you'll want to put yourself through every brick wall on earth. Non Lethally even.
oh god no i hope not, assassins creed style is the worst
AC2 onwards had pretty decent cutscenes but AC1 was fucking terrible. It was just you staring at two character models doing fuck all for like 10 minutes, from a shitty fixed camera angle with the most boring voice actors in history
Act 1? Play the bike chase on that difficulty, you'll want to put yourself through every brick wall on earth.
Having seen how much trouble I had with the bike chase in Solid Normal....yeah I believe you.
I'm so damn excited it hurts. Hideo and his team are amazing. So much passion and detail goes into the game development. They are really creating a legacy opposed to a profit-driven game development.
I cannot fucking wait for MGS5, easily the game I'm most looking forward to from E3. I'm buying the HD collection just to marathon through those and the rest of the games.
