Assassin's Creed III, Dishonored, Journey, Mass Effect 3 and The Walking Dead are the nominees, announced today, for Game of the Year at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards. The rest of the list contains, as you might expect, a number of nominees that were just released only days ago, if at all. Halo 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II are up for best-in-class honors, and both are nominated as best multiplayer titles, despite being available for a combined 11 days. The as-yet unreleased New Super Mario Bros. U and ZombiU also get nods. There's even a nomination for Linkin Park for its contributions to Black Ops II Medal of Honor. This might raise the question of why, say, these awards aren't done in February or March, like the Oscars. Answer: because no one's buying video games for Christmas in February or March.
http://kotaku.com/5961061/spike-vgas-announce-nominees-for-best-video-games-of-november Where is Sleeping Dogs, Borderlands 2, and or just anything else? I think we need another Vidya Games Awards from 4chan.
Ok, Assassin's Creed 3 was alright, but definitely not GOTY material. And this is coming from a long-time fan of the series. Also on-topic:
I think Dishonored and The Walking Dead both deserve to be up there.
I think Dishonored and The Walking Dead both deserve to be up there.
As does Journey.
It's not a bad list. But I suppose it proves how lukewarm AAA titles have been this year.
Is it bad that the only game I've gotten this year is Torchlight 2? And I didn't even buy it, I was gifted it.
Mass effect 3 GOTY? after that ending? please.
After that game. I don't know why people focus on the ending so much when the whole game is (mostly) bland and uninspired. ADA and Joker were it's only redeeming features.
Ah good, Dishonored is there. Watched the title, saw that it was a bad list and instantly questioned myself if it was there or not. Crisis averted. Not that bad I guess...
I think we need another Vidya Games Awards from 4chan.
Didn't the narrator at the beginning make fun of Reddit's video game awards for giving too many awards to Portal 2 and Bastion, but later in the Vidya Game Awards they gave virtually every award to Portal and Bastion?
Dishonored was good but way too easy. ME3 would probably win the most controversial game of the year award but that's only for it's shitty ending. TWD is amazing but definitely not GOTY material. I've never even played BL2 but I know it deserves in there.
I'm kind of hoping The Walking Dead wins. It's one of the most original and memorable games I've played this year.
After that game. I don't know why people focus on the ending so much when the whole game is (mostly) bland and uninspired. ADA and Joker were it's only redeeming features.
A lot of storylines were wrapped up rather well imo, at least as far as I got to playing. Gave up about 60% of the way through, just because I knew the ending and how odd it would be... Dishonored should be on there if only for the fact that it was a fresh new idea. It wasn't another COD, another Halo (although that isn't as milked), another generic shooter. It was short, but it was definitely worth it. And Borderlands, it built upon what was already a pretty damn good game.
I only watch the VGAs for the exclusive trailers; everything else is just cringeworthy.
that's a horrible list mass effect 3, assassin's creed 3, halo 4, and black ops II had a stupid amount of things in different categories while i agree on some things they put (jennifer hale did an amazing job as shepard) there's some things on there that are just retarded why is black ops on 'best original score' also no dark souls on PC 0/10 would not vote for anything
I really hope Dishonored gets the recognition it deserves.
AC 3 really isn't GOTY material, it's a good game but it's completely unpolished and it feels like there's a lot of features missing
its not a bad list but ME3? are you shitting me? lmao
Dishonored is certainly a great candidate. It was probably my favorite game from this year next to Borderlands 2 (which, for the record, has no reason not to be a contender on that list).
also Dishonored was alright but they fucked on some things like the whole "you should use non-lethal but it'll be really boring because there will only be one way to be non-lethal, but look at these cool lethal gadgets and weapons while you're at it!"
Didn't the narrator at the beginning make fun of Reddit's video game awards for giving too many awards to Portal 2 and Bastion, but later in the Vidya Game Awards they gave virtually every award to Portal and Bastion?
Yah, I really thought they fucked up on that part, they did win for legit reasons they explained atleast. Reddit just pulled a giant circle-jerk over Portal memes. I just want another one. Though sometimes the random "for da lolz" videos thrown in were stupid. [editline]16th November 2012[/editline]
I really hope Dishonored gets the recognition it deserves.
It was ok...... Like it had everything to be GOTY, but it's ending and generally limited (if going for perfect ending) gameplay was pretty bad.
After that game. I don't know why people focus on the ending so much when the whole game is (mostly) bland and uninspired. ADA and Joker were it's only redeeming features.
ME3 had very enjoyable game play and the plot was decent until the end.
Xcom? :(
I really hope fez doesn't win "best indie game", that cockbag phil fish doesn't deserve more ego.
Dishonored is good but it's not very original It's basically Thief + magic The setting and production design are fucking awesome, though
The Walking Dead deserves to be called the GOTY. It's one of the best games I've ever played. And it's different from the games that usually get GOTY awards.
I really hope fez doesn't win "best indie game", that cockbag phil fish doesn't deserve more ego.
but it used such fresh and entertaining memes!!
No Sleeping Dogs?
I hope Hitman Absolution is put under consideration, because from what I've seen it actually looks like it could be fun for the people who haven't played previous Hitman games and the people who have.
GOTY simply means the game with the most expensive ad campaign on that particular year.
