The man was carrying the firearms in a suitcase and also had ammunition and a copy of the Koran, a police source says.

A man has been arrested with two handguns at the Disneyland Paris amusement park complex, police have said. A police source told the Reuters news agency the 28-year-old man of European origin was carrying the firearms in a suitcase and was stopped by security staff after the bag passed through an X-ray machine at the Hotel New York. He was carrying ammunition and a copy of the Koran, the source added. The man, who was reportedly unknown to police and the intelligence services, did not resist and was arrested by police at around noon local time, France Inter radio said.
http://news.sky.com/story/1631625/man-held-at-disneyland-paris-with-two-handguns
Good thing they stopped him.
European origin
As in having traveled from Europe to the US, being a citizen of an EU member state? Because that would not be good right now...

Sounds like he just thinking he could get through security with them.

A relative large amount of Muslims in France along with the fact that France has been very involved in anti-terrorism across the world in her former colonies make it a great target to strike.
Maybe he meant to only assassinate a single person, or so.
Maybe he meant to only assassinate a single person, or so.
A guy from Europe goes to a densely populated place where children are often present, in a city still reeling from an earlier attack, carrying a pair of handguns, ammunition, and a Qur'an. Maybe this guy was some kind of assassin or nutjob or something who just happens to be Muslim but the totality of details sure screams Islamic terrorism, and more specifically a copycat attack. I'm hesitant to make any definitive statements because it's easy for these stories to get skewed in their reporting, but the possibility that he went to Disneyland to assassinate a single person with two guns and a large supply of ammunition is not very high on my list of likely explanations.
is it some kind of standard that every islamic terrorist carries a quran with them while committing atrocities? i don't see why having a piece of literature (religious or not) on someone's person determines their motives or alignment with an organization.

Carrying a personal copy of the Quran isn't that out of the ordinary.
Carrying a personal copy of the Quran isn't that out of the ordinary.
carrying two guns to a theme park, however, is out of the ordinary who knows, maybe he just meant to stir some shit up and go out with a bang with people finding the Quran on his belongings or maybe he's a terrorist
What confuses me is at what point did this guy realize his brilliant plan was ruined if not when he was putting his briefcase through a metal detector?
What confuses me is at what point did this guy realize his brilliant plan was ruined if not when he was putting his briefcase through a metal detector?
Perhaps he tried to conceal it with a makeshift Faraday, figuring Disney of all places wouldn't have TSA level security. That being a simple grasp at straws of course, I just remember reading online about ways to smuggle illegal things through detectors

If you want delicious tinfoil you look at the ironclad passports they bring.
Disneyland Paris has a good deal of security it seems. Aside from obligatory searches before entering the park, I've seen fairly heavily armed guards patrolling outside from time to time. Guess they really mean business about being "the happiest place on earth." :v:
