I need some advice on building a new desktop as my old one got stolen in a burglary. Insurance covers me up to 1000 but i wanted to save 200 and spend that on a holiday. Was wondering if building from this. I'm going for a relatively quiet build as il be spending alot of time on it doing 3d modeling and simulation work for engineering as well as gaming. Thanks in advance! Oh, the burglars where kind enough not to steal my monitor or keyboard (small blessings) so i wont need to get new ones.
Sorry to hear you got burgled, some people are just little shits in life. But anyway here is what I put together for you: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2ULR3 This build will tear any game apart full 1080p highest quality and all that crap and it will be good for your 3d modelling and work, there we are have fun! :downs:

Get a Barracuda instead. That RAM is significantly more expensive than the alternatives. So expensive that switching to another brand completely offsets the cost of the harddrive The G41 is a budget motherboard. Upgrading to something like the D3H will barely drag the budget above what's needed, and it's a significantly better motherboard. [editline]17th February 2014[/editline] oh, and adding the case to the build completely blows the budget up, making this whole thing pretty irrelevant http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2UMUZ
You're acting rather smug that i couldn't find the barracuda and the g41 is excellent. I prefer corsair too be fair quality is better. By the way you went 90 quid over budget.
Thanks for having a look. Ive made a couple of changes, different heatsink and an extra case fan. All comes to just under £850. What do you think? I know the 212 evo is a decent little cooler, But i think the noctua would have a little more overclocking headroom vs noise level.

Your build has the same budget issue once you actually add a harddrive and case, so your point is moot. What i'm trying to say is that the OP won't be able to fit a 4770K within his current budget. He's either biting the bullet with 900 or downgrading to a 4670K which will be a bit worse for his 3D-modelling tasks

My old cpu was a i5 2500k and that was pretty competent.

It's Gav's build, only modified with the changes i mentioned(harddrive, case, better+cheaper RAM, better motherboard) and an i5 4670K
Awesome, i'll order that up tomorrow. I plan on keeping this build for a while which was why i was asking for help. Cheers man!
