• How does bandwith work?

I have a bandwith limit with my isp and im reaching my limit each month, even though im only downloading about half of it. Is a 1gb download=1gb of bandwith, or is their a variation.
Everything you download and upload will go to your limit. So if you had 1GB of download then you could download 1GB or download 500MB and upload 500MB
not only downloading and uploading but just browsing the internet and watching videos like youtube also use up bandwidth.

exactly. Just clarifying that it's not just uploading/downloading files, but other stuff too.
Basically anything that you need your Router/Modem turned on to do (youtube, facebook, facepunch), will use your internet. and of course using the internet uses up your 1gb data allowance.
1GB limit is pretty harsh.

Oppy has a good point, 1gb is tiny, I use about 1.2gb every day
To clarify, bandwidth is the speed at which you transfer data. You have a cap on how much data you can receive. I suggest you switch to another ISP.
exactly. Just clarifying that it's not just uploading/downloading files, but other stuff too.
Everytime you go to a webpage you are uploading a request for the page and downloading the data you requested. Web browsing youtube etc are exactly the same as uploading/downloading there is no difference.

A 1GB a month limit sounds a lot like a mobile broadband connection. For comparison, I use 30GB a day on my home connection.
