Though the galaxy is relatively nearby, at least in the scale of the universe, it is so dark that scientists completely missed it for decades.
Source: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/ghost-galaxy-dark-matter-dragonfly-44-invisible-milky-way-a7209881.html The video in the source is pretty interesting and expands quite a bit. Cool find tbh! :science101:
It looks like a tree.
the comments on the article make me hurt on the inside
It looks like a tree.
obviously that it yggdrasil pictured in the article
"Dragonfly 44" is the coolest name
obviously that it yggdrasil pictured in the article
wonder where Nidhoggr fucked off to when they took the pic maybe he's camera shy
that is so cool, we gotta go scoop some up
what if dark matter galaxies had planets. And those planets had the potential for life. Dark life.
The video in the source is pretty interesting and expands quite a bit. Cool find tbh! :science101:
Can someone possibly reupload it somewhere? The page refuses to load any video at all for me to the point I can't even try to open it in a separate tab or anything because it doesn't seem to have a source.
Skeleton Galaxy
what if dark matter galaxies had planets. And those planets had the potential for life. Dark life.
There are many rogue planets in space, it is entirely possible that some of them would be collected by such a galaxy. Without any stars for them to orbit, any such planet would need a great deal of luck to detect (a sufficiently sensetive telescope pointed at the right spot in the sky for long enough time to witness the transit against background stars and galaxies, and then actually figuring out the dip in the brightness wasn't just a fluke) Such planets would mostly be frozen due to lack of sunlight, but some of them could still be somewhat warm underground due to heat from collisions or the decay of nuclear elements, but realistically very very few of them would have any heat at all.
the comments on the article make me hurt on the inside
The guy trying to suggest that this proves ghosts are real is just hilarious. What are these fucking creatures, it pains me to know people can be this dumb.
The guy trying to suggest that this proves ghosts are real is just hilarious.
Scientists have found a “ghost” galaxy – roughly the same mass as our own, but entirely made up of dark matter.
It's actually a mirror version of our own galaxy, dark matter is actually just matter from a parallel version of our own universe.
what if dark matter galaxies had planets. And those planets had the potential for life. Dark life.
Jesus fucking christ dude don't call them dark that's not the right term
It's actually a mirror version of our own galaxy, dark matter is actually just matter from a parallel version of our own universe.
I invite you to prove this.
I invite you to prove this.
you know what bud i am sick of tired of you people askling for "proof" when we don't need any. is his speculation not enough "proofy-stuff" for him to be right (correct) about the thing he says is true?? ofcourse it is, because he wouldnt be able to even think of it if it wasnt a true thing. get a life bro......take a philosopy class maybe? peace
the comments on the article make me hurt on the inside
That Marmaduke fella needs a slap
I invite you to prove this.
You know it to be true, look deep within your heart and you shall see the light.
It's actually a mirror version of our own galaxy, dark matter is actually just matter from a parallel version of our own universe.
Meanwhile in that galaxy, someone on Punchface is theorizing that a newly found galaxy of non-dark matter is a parallel version of their own
PUI?
No, high-octane shitposting.
If there's an infinite number of universes then that post is higly profound in one of them.
can we get a picture of it?
can we get a picture of it?
Here it is
the comments on the article make me hurt on the inside
seeing people act like real condescending science buffs but getting totally confused between anti matter, dark matter and dark energy (all completely separate, unrelated things) is hilarious
E=MC^2 is nothing to do with this, that is Einsteins equation of Binding Energy. Stephen Hawkins did one thing correctly, he went to basics and said if there is matter then the opposite is also true and that would be anti-matter. Light/Dark, Hot/Cold, Good/Evil there is always twos. But this is significant, a galaxy of dark matter, rather than dark matter surrounding a galaxy is huge. It may mean there is a 4th player to the play, otherwise what keeps them apart from each other. Matter, Anti-Matter, Dark Matter but what is number 4? Is there a light matter to be the Dark Matter's opposite?
such gibberish haha Stephen Hawkins
