Is it a big deal? Should I not even consider getting it because of the SLOW 512MB VRAM?
Is it a big deal? Should I not even consider getting it because of the missing 512MB VRAM?
It's not missing, just access to it is slower than the rest of the memory, and you most likely won't notice.
Re edited the OP post. Please don't bully me anymore.
Still, it's the fastest card at that price. It's not as fast as it "should" be at high resolutions, but even then, right now there's nothing better you can get for the price.

I run 4K games on ultra with a 970 SLI and I have never even hit the 3.5 "Danger Zone" the media blew its waaay out of proportion
I bought a 970 the day they came out, well before the 3.5GB fiasco and it kicked ass then and it still kicks ass now, I'm not worried.
On cards with more VRAM, 4K does sometimes go over 4GB. Looking at you, Watch_Dogs.
watch dogs runs like shit on everything
I bought a 970 the day they came out, well before the 3.5GB fiasco and it kicked ass then and it still kicks ass now, I'm not worried.
Yeah it's worked fine for me over the last 6 months, have been able to run most games at around 60 I'd say.
watch dogs runs like shit on everything
True, but it still shows that with 4GB VRAM (let alone less), you're already walking on thin ice for 4K.
On cards with more VRAM, 4K does sometimes go over 4GB. i'm at 1080p with the 970, no problems so far! runs literally everything on the highest settings, bought this 3 days ago i'm a happy camper
Its a little bit too late now, better wait for the next series.
Wait a few days for the 390(X) to come out, if we're lucky AMD's done some good. Or well, the Fury cards maybe. Whatever it is, I think it's worth waiting a few days for it.
The entire amd lineup is leaked with prices. You can already compare to it.
