As title says, at the end of July I'm going to splurge a bit on a good gaming/SFM computer to use for a couple of years. I'm looking for a budget of $900, but if there's a notable performance increase it could go up to $1000. Also, I was wondering- when will the i5 4690Ks be available, and should I use one?
Do you need an OS, mouse, keyboard, wifi, or a monitor?
I'm going to assume you already have all those and are in the US PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($94.99 @ NCIX US) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($92.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($52.92 @ Amazon) Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 290 4GB Double Dissipation Video Card ($390.59 @ B&H) Case: BitFenix Prodigy M Midnight MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($59.99 @ TigerDirect) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($64.99 @ Newegg) Total: $996.46 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-06-14 07:20 EDT-0400 [editline]14th June 2014[/editline] You'd probably need a custom CPU cooler, but I know jack shit about that field so you'd better ask someone here. The speed difference isn't that much
The K means it's overclockable, it's silly to get a non-overclockable processor with a Z97 chipset that allows overclocking
Just noticed that, fixed my last post
Okay, I need a monitor and mouse. Forgot to update OP. And I'm too scared to overclock, so no, it probably won't be useful. Also I may need a copy of Win8
No keyboard? And do you need all of that in the $1000 budget, or are you buying the monitor separately?

Is this bad? I'd like to know what suggestions people could make, especially the case.
You don't need a CPU Cooler or Z series mobo PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($214.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97M-HD3 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($84.99 @ Mwave) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($89.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($52.92 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card ($249.99 @ Newegg) Monitor: Asus VE248H 24.0" Monitor ($164.99 @ Amazon) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($37.33 @ Amazon) Total: $895.20 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
