• Has anyone noticed that imbedded youtube videos take longer to load?

Every time I watch an embedded Youtube video, it feels like it takes absolutely forever to load. When I click the video and go to the actual Youtube site, the video loads much faster. I'm wondering if this is just me or if Youtube are dicks and do that on purpose.

I think it has something to do with the star of bethleham.
I think it has something to do with the star of bethleham.
I see what you did there
The redirect to youtube slows down the video, it's not your internet.
no
Youtube is just a slow piece of shit in general.
no
what then
Nope. But I have noticed that it's pointless to embed them if they are closed for embedding by request. Please save everyone the trouble and unembed them if that is the case. Thank you.
I click the video and go to YouTube every time for higher quality
I just go to the youtube video instead.

VEVO videos take for FUCKING ever.
VEVO videos take for FUCKING ever.
Yeah but that's just because it's VEVO
Just click the link and go straight to youtube.
Youtube is horrible anyways.
Yeah it happens to me too. It's really annoying.
I think it may be because most of the embedded videos always have their quality set on higher. If you go to youtube, it goes to your default.
It's possible that they're prioritizing people on the youtube site to have the better experience because they have more advertising opportunities there.
The advertisement is how the partners get their money, so compwhizii is right [tab]fix this comp, quote to see.[/tab]
I have Adblock. Youtube - 0 Me - 1
-snip-
Embedded youtube videos seem to use the higher quality by default, at least on facepunch. I tend to just turn it back down to 360p because otherwise it won't load in realtime. [editline]12th January 2011[/editline] But other than that I don't know.

Youtube is taking slower and slower now days anyway, or is that just me?
i like how 47 people rated me dumb yet no one has given a better explanation, i know im probably wrong but thats what i have heard
The YouTUBE FLV player is clientside. It wil always download directly from YouTUBE, no matter where you embed the player.
I don't notice any difference, except that it seems that 480 loads slower than 720 for me. Odd.
i like how 47 people rated me dumb yet no one has given a better explanation, i know im probably wrong but thats what i have heard
The more things you put in between the video and the user, the more things have to be loaded before the video shows properly.
