Sony returned to its dev-friendly era in building the PSP2, according to the man in charge of the firm’s global fleet of studios.
SCE Worldwide Studio boss Shuhei Yoshida appears to have personally encouraged a developer-first approach in building the new handheld – something he had pledged to do last year.
In a new interview, Yoshida said the input of external developers “has been essential for us to make final decisions on PSP2”.
“As a result of this, we went through many iterations of PSP2,” he said.
“It reminded me of the early days of the original PlayStation, when we visited many developers and publishers to get feedback during the development of that product."
Last year, in an exclusive interview with Develop, Yoshida admitted that the PS3 was a big challenge for developers to work with.
That console, Ken Kutaragi’s last, is one of extraordinary power and complexity but had exposed Sony as putting itself before game development partners.
Those days are over, Yoshida said in a new interview on the PlayStation Blog.
“It's almost as if SCE has gone back to basics, which should be a good thing,” he said.
I'll Believe it when i see it sony when you release a PS3 and NGP Yaroze

I'd assume it's the cell architecture that's tricky to develop with.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd say its more likely down to it not using a mainstream SDK called DirectX, instead used it's own branch of OpenGL.
Most developers now only focus on using DirectX so they don't hire or teach people to use OpenGL.
Even thought the lesser is far better than the current Microsoft ruler.

No I didn't. Never enjoyed a Crash game, although I did enjoy the commercials, but the thought of them doesn't bring me back for some reason.
The Crash bandicoot series was the single best series on PS1, that along with Resident Evil... my god those were the days, does anyone remember Forsaken?
I still have my forsaken disc! Noone I know has ever heard of it though :saddowns:

It's funny because so far, excluding uncharted, naughty dog have made 3 titles in the same series, then made a racing game of it (they did it with crash and jak) so expect to see an uncharted racing game!

Crash 2 had the worst commercial i've ever seen.

DirectX is Microsoft's closed product. How the hell did Sony, Microsoft's console nemesis, get access to it?

I remember playing Crash Bandicoot way back on the school's PS1. Was fun. I preferred Ratchet and Clank back then, though.
So why did this thread go from the hilarious thought of Sony being in PS1 mode because they are obviously crazy right now, into a nostalgia thread?
