I've been thinking about making this thread for a while now and I concluded : "Why not" ? It is a growing band, gaining more and more popularity, thanks to its 2011 release El Camino and its previous title that also generated a larger fan base, Brothers. Also, music industry nowadays is seriously lacking this kind of blues-rock that The Black Keys produce. So here it is... Presentation : What is The Black Keys ? What kind of music do they do ? When did they started ? To answer all of your questions, I'm gonna go lazy and go wiki on you :
The Black Keys is an American rock band formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The group began as an independent act founded after the duo dropped out of college, and they eventually emerged among a second wave of popular garage rock revival artists from the 2000s. Through October 2011, The Black Keys had sold over 2 million albums in the United States.[1] Their debut album, The Big Come Up (2002), was recorded in Carney's basement and forged their raw blues rock sound. Over the next decade, The Black Keys built an underground fanbase through near-constant touring of small venues, frequent album releases, and extensive licensing of their songs. In 2006, the band signed with Nonesuch Records and began to receive bookings for large music festivals. The duo released Attack & Release in 2008, their first album produced by Danger Mouse, a frequent collaborator of the band. Their commercial breakthrough came in 2010 with Brothers, which along with its popular single "Tighten Up", won three Grammy Awards. Their 2011 follow-up El Camino has received the strongest reviews of the band's career and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.

Members : As said previously, The Black keys consist of a duo. That doesn't stop them to record bass and keyboard for some of their studio songs (more likely in the recent ones). But how can they perform them live if they're down in members ? They are helped by two touring musicians, Gus Seyffert (bass) and John Wood (bass) since 2010. We don't say that without a reason, it's because most of them (by most of them I mean almost all of them) are really weird, out of context and just plain random. They are still awesome nevertheless. Here some... Obviously, there's more of this freakness, but I don't feel like feeling the OP with that. Grand Theft auto IV Strange Times is The only Black Keys song in the game. It can be heard at Radio Broker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PjzXB0vk2Q Rocksmith Rocksmith is a gamed developped by Ubisoft made to get started on guitar or to improve your guitar skills. If you include DLCs and a song only made by Auerbach, there's 7 Black Keys songs. It can be noted that it's the band (or artist) with the most songs in the game. The songs are... - Just Got to Be (Magic Potion) - I Got Mine (Attack & Release) - Next Girl (Brothers) - Tighten Up (Brothers) - Gold on the Ceiling (El Camino) - Mind Eraser (El Camino) - I Want Some More (Dan Auerbach) Here's an exemple of a Black Keys song performed in Rocksmith (Just Got to Be) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI8Azw9S6oM Saint Rows : The Third On Radio 89.0 Generation X FM, Next Girl can be heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_vniTZwyvk

Personal input : I just want to say that I've discovered The Black Keys at the same time I bought Rocksmith shortly after its release. The very first time I played their song (Next Girl was my first one ever), I immediately felt in love with this duo. I used to listen only to very heavy bands before and I realised that I was lacking that kind of music in my life. Calm, bluesish and relaxing songs with a good beat. As I said before, there ain't a lot of bands like them nowadays, hence why I think The Black Keys' work is not only amazing but pretty much needed for people like me. Anyways, hope this thread won't die quickly, I'm unsure. The Black Keys is still kind of a small band, I don't expect many fans coming here. But oh well, we'll see ! And please, if there's any mistake(s) in the OP, tell me right away so I can correct them.
Is their new record any good? I've been meaning to hear it. Even my brother in law has a copy, but I haven't managed to listen to it yet.
Some say it's their best one yet and I agree to that. It seems as the more it goes, the more their song are active and energitic. Imo, it's a good thing, but that could turn into a bad thing if they exagerate too much (losing their blues influence). But yeah, El Camino is awesome. If you ever get to hear it, be sure to listen to these : - Gold on the Ceiling - Lonely Boy - Little Black Submarines - Mind Eraser - Dead and Gone These are the best imo.
you forgot about blackroc, dude
saying it is their best is a pretty big call. Brothers was pretty outstanding, even their early records were too. Albeit more bluesy and dirtier, those early records are so well played, I'm amazed how they changed their sound.

But calling an album "the best" dosen't remove any credit from the other one. I like Keys' progression, you can see how they change their sound, like you just said. But yeah, in order to have a proper opinion, you should listen to El Camino in its entirety first.
I'll have to nab the CD from him then, he tells me it's the best thing he's heard in months..
I liked El Camino but i still prefer their stuff like The Big Come Up(one of my favorite records ever).
There's a Black Keys song from Brothers in Saints Row 3 as well if you want to add that Anyway I love these guys, they make rock that's just really fun to listen to

Listed to Blakroc for the first time. Pretty sweet stuff there.
I've only really listened to Attack & Release, I really like it for it's bluesyness, I don't know why I've never listened to their other stuff. I also really enjoyed Blackroc
Picked up El Camino, it's good but doesn't have the re-listenability I hoped it would, absolutely sick of Lonely boy at the moment
Going to see them in April, the Arctic Monkeys are opening, I'm pumped as shit
I like them but tbh I like the basic garage-y blues-rock on The Big Come-Up the best.
I like them but tbh I like the basic garage-y blues-rock on The Big Come-Up the best.
So raw, so vulgarly recorded and also the playing is great.
There cover of The Beatles She Said, She Said was alright too.
