Can I get my award now?" Specialist Matthew Baker told the Post. The American troops confirmed Ashan’s identity with a biometric scan. While happy he was in custody, US officials couldn't help but take a swipe at the prisoner's questionable intelligence. One called Ashan "the Taliban equivalent of the Home Alone burglars", while another simply said "the man is an imbecile".

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8453227/taliban-commander-surrenders-for-100-reward

Had to check to see if this was an "Onion" article, there :v:
...but did they pay him?
He is not a smart man.
what an idiot
Hahaha.... Would be funny if he got the death penalty or something after that
This shit made me laugh. Considering the fact they believe whatever happens to them is what their god wants for them it's not that strange. He's just very naive i think. Plus, maybe he really needed the money but didn't want to make his criminal record worse.
I can imagine he always tries to help the Taliban and ends up fucking shit over, and they finally convinced him doing this would get him money.
Makes one think, why would he need that money so sudden. personal gain or to give to a family member suffering or alike?

He thought they were offering him a reward so he went to collect it, didn't realise it meant keeping him in custody.
I hope he gets his reward.
I can just imagine the conversation he's having with his jailer: "hey, wanna here the most annoying sound in the world?"

Plus he's taliban, so probably muslim so probably God as opposed to gods. At best there might be some various spirits an deamons taken from local myths predating islam, which were the promptly weaved into local Islamic customs. As had happened with Christianity to be honest.
I imagine him to be like one of those dumb terrorists from the movie Four Lions
Maybe $100 is worth more over there?
I wonder what he wanted it for. Maybe he saw a nice pair of shoes in a store that were 100 dollars. Sure, he turned himself in, but they were really nice shoes.
The situation must be awful over there for them to have to do that
I am laughing out loud at my computer screen right now
I have no doubt that there are people that stupid in the world but part of me wonders whether this wasn't a calculated attempt to put somebody of percieved importance in custody in order to feed false information to our forces.
What if an evil villain made money by causing lots of crimes to rack up his bounty, then turns himself in and use the bounty for bail to then start over?
What if an evil villain made money by causing lots of crimes to rack up his bounty, then turns himself in and use the bounty for bail to then start over?
you don't get the bounty for handing yourself in.
...but did they pay him?
yes, they paid him... in justice

Probably just a guy from some village who decided one day to pick up a gun.
Probably just a guy from some village who decided one day to pick up a gun.
I'd say most of them are just that. This guy however seemed to be one can sort of a six pack.
One called Ashan "the Taliban equivalent of the Home Alone burglars"
I misread that and thought his name was "Ashan the Taliban"
you don't get the bounty for handing yourself in.
Have somebody else turn him in. Use the bounty as bail money.
Bail set at $101. [editline]18th April 2012[/editline] Bail set at $101. No, but seriously, what an idiot.
Is this really stupidity? Sounds more like the move of a person that desperately needs money, but for what? I'd really like to know if there's more behind this. I don't exclude the chance he's just an idiot, but he must've done /something/ right if he got into that leading position.
