Plot Sumary: No spoilers
Lester and Carolyn Burnham are on the outside, a perfect husband and wife, in a perfect house, in a perfect neighborhood. But inside, Lester is slipping deeper and deeper into a hopeless depression. He finally snaps when he becomes infatuated with one of his daughter's friends. Meanwhile, his daughter Jane is developing a happy friendship with a shy boy-next-door named Ricky, who lives with a homophobic father.
TLDR: One of the most beautiful and inspirational movies of all time. I didn't think I would of liked it me not liking love kinda films(its not); but it is a great movie with a great soundtrack and kevin spacey. One of my top 10 movies

great movie
i don't see how posting its rank on imdb's top 250 is relevant though, that list is HIGHLY unreliable
It came out when I was a kid.
Thought it was a porno.
Can't believe Thomas Newman didn't get more awards for his music in this one.
I'm gay for Kevin Spacey.
I love this film
this is a good movie i saw it on amc or something a while ago
I love this movie.
I've only ever seen bits of this movie, but my girlfriend has rented it from Lovefilm and we're gonna watch it later.
I saw the beginning as a kid. My mom turned off the TV and said it was a bad movie for me too watch. I've lived by that code up until now, I Want To See This Fucking Film.

Its not a bad movie.
But as a 9 year old you wouldn't understand it

You don't learn that until the very end...and it a key in the movie plot...

I mean, I know he hates them, but never anything else.
Great movie. Kevin Spacey is awesome

Thats not a spoiler at the beginning you can see the disgust for the gay neighbours and he even discusses it with his son
Kevin Spacey is awesome in that movie.
"That is a 1970 Pontiac Firebird, the car I have always wanted, and now I have it. I rule!"

[sp]He is homophobic all the way through, he is shown to be homosexual at the end[/sp]

I thought that [sp]was just to check if Kevin Spacey was gay[/sp]
AMAZING film. I always cry at the ending; not from saddness but...it's a unique feeling the film evokes.
I thought that [sp]was just to check if Kevin Spacey was gay[/sp]
No, [sp]he's a repressed homosexual, and he masks that through affecting homophobia. He kissed Kevin Spacey in a moment of weakness, and then sort of kills him to "cover up" that. The original script had him with a gay lover who died in Vietnam but it got cut[/sp]
We watched this in English class. The masturbation thing at the beginning got some girls giggling
Definitely one of my favourite films ever.
I love all the subtle American shit in there, like the way in a great deal of the shots there're the colours red, white and blue present. Like their house, white with blue shutters and a red door. It's a fantastic film, Kevin Spacey is so heartwarming despite his kind of emotionlessness.

You were allowed to watch this is class? Wow.
I just watched this movie. I can easily say that this film has everything and it's probably my new favourite movie.
Actually no. Kung Pow will always be my favourite movie of all time. This is in the top 10 though.
You know, I never got something; why is the tag "Look closer"?

# The tagline and important theme of the film - "...look closer" - can be seen in Lester's cubicle at work. It was simply something a set dresser had put in, and director Sam Mendes noticed it while editing and suggested it be used for the poster.
# The title of the film refers to a breed of roses that while pretty and appealing in appearance, is often prone to rot underneath at the roots and branches of the plant. Thus, the tagline "...look closer" tells the viewer that when they look beyond the "perfect suburban life" they will find something rancid at the root.
There's a shot-for-shot remake of this movie except it takes place in Hungary. It's called Hungarian Beauty, and I am not making this up.
