[T]http://cdn.bleedingcool.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Transformers-4-Humans.jpg[/T] After the Transformers Cinematic Universe Writers room, more news on the future of Transformers keeps pouring in. Source: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/10/27/transformers-akiva-goldsman-doesnt-want-to-squander-the-human-element?utm_source=IGN%20hub%20page&utm_medium=IGN%20(front%20page)&utm_content=7&utm_campaign=Blogroll (See the article for a couple of extra videos with a rumored Unicron buildup in TF5!)
Earlier this week, I spoke with Akiva Goldsman about his documentary episode of National Geographic's upcoming Breakthrough series (more on that soon!), but of course I also had to ask him about Transformers, since he lead the impressive writers room --- which included Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Jeff Pinkner (Fringe), Steven DeKnight (Daredevil, Spartacus) and more -- who gathered this year to determine the future of that franchise. Goldsman talked about the writers room process, how interconnected the new movies will be, and whether Transformers really need humans... "Do I think Transformers can live without humans? Sure. Do I think humans can live without Transformers? Sure. In Transformers movies? Sure! But, fundamentally, there seems to be something really great about the interaction between the two species. I think that, in the main, I would suggest that that would be something you wouldn't want to squander. Although that doesn't mean that you couldn't do all sorts of things for a little while."
There's more news, including the confirmation of a animated prequel on Cybertron.
Yeah, the prequel. It takes place before Optimus and Megatron ever come to Earth.
Afterthoughts: I...I don't think Goldsman has seen all the films and figured out that we don't need more humans, just more robot screentime. The Transformers in the shows were like Kaiju, or Godzilla in the 2014 Godzilla film. The humans were there just to see the reactions of the action that took place, and how it's gonna affect their lives. The Autobots could handle most Deception situations all on their own unless they needed a spy, a liaison, or something. This also means that we won't have the Transformers/Human interaction later on, possibly after TF5 with the rumor that Unicron might be coming from deep space.
An entire film with just the transformers would be fine.
Oh shit, can't wait to see what they will do with Unicron inb4 they make him a nanomachine cloud like galactus in the FF4 silver surfer movie
Honestly it'd probably benefit with less focus on the humans, more on the actual goddamn Transformers. Wasn't that the balance that the original 80's animated movie had, or am I remembering wrong? Alternatively, they could just implement Oreobot and have him die heroically. Let us never forget Oreobot.
After Age of Extinction, where can you go with Marky Mark and the funky family? All that leaves now is what the rest of the writers are gonna do. I'm curious if Robert Kirkman and Steven DeKnight are either gonna do the rest of the films after 5, the rumored spin-offs, or the confirmed prequel?
Is there anything left to make a plot of at this point? Seems like they've tapped pretty much every story possible and we're on the verge of a BTTF Jaws 19 joke.

Seems like they've tapped pretty much every story possible and we're on the verge of a BTTF Jaws 19 joke.
We still got Galvatron, the Creators, and the rumor of Unicron coming, I think there might be room for 3 more films. Plus the toyline has a boatload of characters. Should someone die, or god forbid more films, they can always be replaced by one out of many, many characters in the current roster. Just have them fight at this point. No more hunting for the MacGuffin crap, just an orgy of alien metal, oil, and Baysplosions.
More Humans, Less Transformers
That's exactly the opposite of what we want. This is why people liked Pacific Rim, it had less people and more giant things punching other giant things. It didn't have any of the characters running around like jackasses.
How about we have a movie with nothing but the Transformers and shit blowing up and do away with a terribly contrived plot with the sole purpose of justifying everything?
How about we have a movie with nothing but the Transformers and shit blowing up and do away with a terribly contrived plot with the sole purpose of justifying everything?
Please and thank you. The last genuinely good Transformers/Michael Bay film was the first one, Revenge of the Fallen was okay, but the most recent two (especially AoE) was absolute garbage. Too much of a focus on the humans and we get a trainwreck that is Marky Mark running around with an alien sword-gun drinking budweiser and desperately attempting to not be lame.
when it comes to giant robots transformers has never even been that good. It's just a 80s kids show that people got over nostalgia-bonered for when the first michael bay movie came out. And now it seems like every "nerd" you meet has always been a fan of Transformers and has lunchboxes of it and other 80s-90s shit.
I hate to admit it, but I think the best 'human element' in the films were the two military guys played by Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson. They could hold their own against the 'Cons until the Autobots arrived (except for the part where the humans starting to win in DOTM was kind of BS), and since they're both fighting for Earth's future, had a stronger bond with the Autobots than Sam and his girlfriends did. I think they tried to do something with NEST, Ironhide and Lennox for the trilogy, but Sam's sideplots and Ironhide's death in DOTM ruined any characterization.
