Much like an affiliate link, our creators receive a small share of the revenue generated by the measurable increase in sales generated by their coverage. This will often run for a brief period of time after the video has gone live.
So for example if a game had an extra 10,000 sales in the week after their video, they would see a small percentage of those extra sales.
Ideally viewers will be encouraged to purchase through the Humble Store rather than Steam, as developers receive a better margin and 10% of revenue goes to charity.

Does this mean the Yogscast is for sale?
The golden rule is that we only play games that we enjoy. At the end of the day, we can’t feign enthusiasm around a product or event that we don’t ourselves possess excitement for. People watch our videos because we're having fun, and if a game isn't fun, it's immediately obvious to our audience, which defeats the point of everything we're doing.
We are not journalists and we do not provide reviews or opinions on games. However we feel it’s worth clarifying that we wouldn’t ever give ‘positive opinions’ on a game in return for any form of remuneration.
So if they can't give negative opinions, will they just stay silent for the whole video if it's bad?
How would they prove how many sales are directly linked to their video?
TotalBiscut actually had a video about YogDiscovery, specifically this question.
Yogscast still has credibility after Minecon 2011 and the results of that kickstarter?

What occurred at Minecon 2011?

Well, I'll give you a hint: Yogscast wasn't kickstarting a Minecraft clone for shits and giggles.

IIRC they swore, and notch got pissed because there were a bunch of kids at the event.

Or above too.
They are literally selling out, or at the very least aren't even trying to hide it.

Think of the children!
What I took out of that events is notch was the least professional person in that whole debacle. The run-up interviews were full of him making awkward sex jokes in interviews with the yogscast and not once during the rehearsals did he make any comment about the yogscast's conduct. Only after the event did he publicly accuse the yogscast about unprofessional conduct without citing any example or even informing them why he was upset to begin with.

This is what they had to say:
The likelihood is that YogDiscovery will only take place where game developers feel their games sales have normalised, I would expect after release/early access etc. we want this to be sustainable so are unlikely to make agreements with developers where they feel worse off from the partnership. We certainly wouldn't look to plan for videos to come out when other activity is expected.
Basically, they have no way to prove how many sales are linked to the video.
Couldn't they measure exactly how many sales are caused by them by using a referral link system? Something that's been used by tens of thousands of people and groups for years?
[sp]oh but that'd mean all the coverage from other videos wouldn't count towards their shitty scheme[/sp]
Why can’t you just use a referral code?
People watch our videos through many devices and locations - from XBox to Android or on our website for example. Many people cannot click a link or choose to go directly to their platform or retailer of choice.
"and remember kids, enter YOGSCAST in the referral field for a 5% discount!"
There are a bunch of ways to get around that problem and still have the amount of "sales their coverage adds" be fully trackable.

Didn't they try to make Notch pay for their Minecraft LPs or something?
because if they use referral codes it's too obvious
