Since my two SLI-ed Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT graphics cards just died (Nvidia Transistor Death?...) and my motherboard doesn't have a built-in graphics adapter, I need to buy a replacement. I've decided that either this Nvidia 9800 or this Nvidia 250 is prolly the best deal. Which do you think I should get? If you can find something better, feel free to suggest that, too.
Budget: Low as possible, of course, but preferably not too much over $100
Needs: I'm a hardcore gamer, so being able to run modern, power-hungry games smoothly is top priority. Also, I place a lot of importance on how long a card will last before I need to replace it.
Country: USA
Notes:
- My system is very well air-cooled.
- I have 2 PCI-E slots.
- I'm running Win7 x64.
- I have a 550w PSU with adapters, so I can handle cards that need dedicated power lines.
- Basically, I'll be able to handle any modern GFX card.
What's the budget? If you're keeping it under 200 the 5770 or the 4890 is a good choice.
Perferably around the $100 mark. I'm far from rich, but I'm willing to spend decent money on a part if it'll last me a few good years.

$155.
It's the cheapest, but has lower reviews. If you can spend a little more get a higher rated one, otherwise get that one. When you have more money get another.
Get this 4770, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150369
Or this 5750

I would get a 5750 over a 5770, because a 5770 doesn't beat a 5750 by anymore than 10-15FPS in games which isn't worth the extra $20 or so.

What the fuck? Why would tell him to get the last generation x770? Especially when the current one is only about $40 more.

10-15 FPS is more than worth the extra $20.

Hahahahahaha.
There is nothing wrong with 4000 series cards. Just because the 5000 series cards are slightly better and have DX11 doesn't mean the 4XXX is inferior.
And no, you're a fool if you pay $20 for 10 frames.
10 frames is a lot for something that should last for over a year.

I never said there was anything wrong with the 4000 series. I said why would you tell him to get the 4770 when the 5770 is several times better and costs only $30-40 more.

Keep telling yourself that.
Why are you all linking me to Radeon cards? I know I haven't been keeping up with the hardware scene, but last I saw, Nvidia was slightly better.

Not anymore.
The best gaming card on the market is the HD5970.

Nvidia have seriously dropped the ball lately. Your best bet with any gfx card at the moment whether it's low, mid or high end is an ATI card. As good as nvidia used to be (and im only talking like 6 months ago) you'd be pretty stupid to buy one now even if you went for the GTX 295 (ATI have got this one well covered).
ATI cards give you much more power for your $. The 4890 is a good card, if you can stretch your budget to it that is.
All this is coming from an Nvidia fanboy btw. ATI will probably be my next move, unless the GTX 300 series cards are like the coming of christ... which I very much doubt it.
The 5970 is the best gaming card on the market. Anyone who disagrees with me is a butthurt nVidia fanboy.

There's always gonna be a better card for $30-40 more. It's just a matter of what he needs and what he can afford.
A 4770 is in his budget, while a 5770 is not. Read the OP.
And a 4770 will still max all of your source games and give you some Crysis action.
