But that isn't a plan, that's just a natural con to pirating any game. It's always pain in the ass to patch pirated games (Not that I would know). I don't see how Paradox is doing anything unique here.
Wow, great to see these guys doing it right. It seems few and far between that devs employ the superior service approach.

So their plan is to use that natural counter. How's that not a plan?
It's not a matter of choosing an approach that's unique either.

It's a game that's miles better than Sim City 2013, in a genre that has very few good games. It asks for one third the price Sim City asked for (GMG = $21.89, even right now). It isn't online only which completely failed for days with Sim City 2013 leaving people unable to play. It's relatively bug free, there's a couple very very minor issues that'll get sorted in the first patch. There's mod support out of the gate, with 11k downloads and mods out already.
The value here far exceeds getting the base game for free without the workshop, and having to wait for cracked patches, and that fights piracy better than any bullshit DRM
I agree with the fact that this is considered a plan, in that they're knowingly deciding to go this route instead of following the plans of big companies who slam DRM and hindering quirks into things. It's a course of action and inaction.

why does gmg speak for the game's actual asking price
it's still only half of SC at most, but it seems disingenuous as to what the retail asking prices of both were if you compare a cheapo deal site vs retail

Have you looked at the AAA industry in the last 10 years?
Workshop is already a good anti-piracy measure, and all they had to do was add modding support and the community took care of the rest.
Nice to see another company take the Valve approach rather than the Ubisoft approach. Frequent, meaningful updates, fixes and content do way more than DRM that is the digital equivalent to having an IV of poison inserted while wired with explosives and shackled over a bottomless electrified pit of sharks all while armed guards are trained on you while playing.

I'm not questioning the value of the game, I bought it and it's all what you say and more. What I'm saying is that most games get patched, and even more these days get additional content in the updates too. If you pirate any game patching it will be tedious unless you actually own it. I guess what they are doing is actively using that against pirates, but it's been a thing for a long time.
Anyway, still better than always online.

Some games are easier to pirate than others because most games don't patch that often. Even the new AAA games with their day one patches release updates in large bursts once every couple of weeks, which is manageable for pirates. Releasing a shitload of frequent little micro updates is much more difficult.

I think I've read an interview from someone at Valve that was pretty much identical to this. Making the legit thing more convenient than pirating and all.
Also workshop is piracy killer at its best. I didnt crack Skyrim because i couldnt play it without mods.
There's so much workshop content already, why bother with a stagnant pirate copy?
Is this actually a good game or is it just good in comparison to simcity
Is this actually a good game or is it just good in comparison to simcity
Since it IS a citybuilder, I can guarantee you won't like it if you didn't like simcity 4 or the likes.

It's the best (modern era) city builder since SimCity 4 IMO.

i'm sorry, but uh... nexus mods?
not gonna go about the fact that most of the mods on workshop were pretty miniscule because they had very hard size limitations until recently they dropped that.

Also the Nexus Mod Manager.
The Steam Workshop is clearly inferior in that case, but mostly because Skyrim's default modding tools aren't all that great.

There's the nexus though, which Imo, is better than the workshop. But maybe things will change now that they removed the file size limit.
